@PubIicReIation @PalmerLuckey @spicycardanon @AOC Wow, I think this take is completely under appreciated and spot on. The issue is it doesn’t paint a clear hero or villain which the general public has difficulty navigating. Hence why positions on issues are generally black or white, little room for grey area.

Agree substantively, but you won't win this battle politically - ressentiment is too strong a force. Combine this with the fact that most peoples lived experience with a lot of companies has been generally declining levels of trust within society, and the increased proliferation of scam business models putting their hands in peoples pockets. Rich and productive people won't win this argument on logically pushing back.

The single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers. If a billionaire amasses their wealth by underpaying their full-time workers so severely that they must rely on food assistance and government programs to survive, then no, that wealth was not earned by one individual - it was a wealth transfer subsidized by underpaid American workers and the public who get stuck with the bill for large corporations free-riding off our systems. The point is less about individual morality. It’s more about how our current economic reality of shattering inequality rewards screwing over workers and exploiting essential systems at scale. We’re talking monopoly power. Rent-seeking. Wage theft. Profiteering. Stock buybacks. Destabilizing housing markets. Companies using SNAP/EBT to underwrite their wages. Massive government subsidies or contracts to corporations following lobbying and dark money in politics with little to no oversight or accountability. Some people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That’s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated - these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning in abuse of power.

AOC: “There’s a certain level of wealth and accumulation that is unearned. You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that. You can get market power, you can break rules, you can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth, but you can’t earn that”

This is you coming to terms that some people will gladly not attend events where ticket prices go 2x or more above face value. The new law makes it harder for resellers to exploit the entire market. Official websites can do what they want to cope… independent resellers are screwed🥲

@Peter_2_G @ShaziGoalie @StubHub Awe no more easy profit for those producing zero economic value/output. The vast majority of the population has zero interest in purchasing unverified back ally tickets whether online or not, so let em operate “underground” like the rats they are.

@steeletalk Now imagine we had a government, both federally and provincially that led with resource development to grow the wealth of every Canadian over the last 10 years, as opposed to ideology, just how much better we would be as a country right now.

Thanks to the parents who “helped” their kids into the housing market by weaponizing home equity. You did not solve the problem. You outbid other families with bank leverage and helped turn shelter into a multi-generation wage-extraction machine for lenders.

@jkenney To be fair none of those men (officers excluded) would have had enough education to qualify to teach at memorial. In fact a large number of those men would have been illiterate.

1% of the male population of Newfoundland was killed in the Great War. Memorial University was given its name to be a living, permanent memorial to their sacrifice. None of those men, or those who served with them, would now be eligible to teach at the university named in honour of their sacrifice. DEI has gone too far for too long. (BTW, I wonder if the same discriminatory hiring practices apply to janitorial, food services, and facility maintenance jobs. Or does the unjust treatment only apply to "elite" tenure track positions?)

This week the only university in Newfoundland, @MemorialU, posted 5 tenured professor openings: - AI-driven Navigation - Computational Biochemistry - Genomic Mapping - Indigenous Knowledge - Community Health and Substance Use Each job stipulates that no white men may apply.

@ShaziGoalie Almost 800k and 8X income to live in the costly snowbelt? You need winter tires, jackets, winter boots, warm clothing, shoveling snow, slip and fall, cold and dark 7 months of the year. Paying a premium for what? What is the bull case to buy in Barrie or even Ontario?

BARRIE… THIS ONE IS WILD 👀 This Barrie home sold for $1.2M in 2022. Then came the slow grind down: $899K $849K $839K $799K Final sale: $782,500 $417,500 gone. From bidding-war highs to chasing buyers lower. First sellers chase the old market. Then the market drags them to the new one.
