This is the dumbest controversy imaginable. 1) The case in question was a pre-enforcement action so the referenced request wasn’t really necessary for the case. 2) Both sides (including Colorado) stipulated to the facts to the District Court. The SCOTUS opinion assumes those stipulations. 3) They don’t actually know that the guy they are talking to in these articles is the person that submitted the request via the website (after the complaint had already been filed and gotten media attention)

I will never understand. Calling someone by their correct pronouns costs nothing. But the person whose pronouns get ignored faces all the potential pain and hurt. If you have the ability to save a person pain with a simple word change, which costs nothing to do, why don’t you?
