Let’s make an amazing educational 🧵 Share your own ECG, X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI, blood work, or any other medical images below and see if people can guess the diagnosis. Then Repost.

@RestIsPolitics @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK Have you listened to The Podcast “The Wargame” by Deborah Haynes from Sky news where politicians like Ben Wallace react in real time to a simulated Russian attack on the UK? What did you think? It seemed pretty damning of the ability of the UK to respond.

@DrEilidhMaria I did 2 surgical blocks and a medical block as an F1 and did zero clerking that year either. It’s a bit ridiculous. Pure ward cover.

oh gosh, this must be so difficult for his friends and family. But men, seriously, stop going off on solo walks, especially when it's hot. You're not invincible.

@talthegooner @wesstreeting I do also get a £5000/year meal allowance, and I actually leave on time, and it feels like management want to help me rather than rinse me for everything I’m worth. So there’s that.

@talthegooner @wesstreeting Dunno where these numbers come from, as a PGY3 in NZ I get paid roughly £65-70k equivalent. More than I would in the UK but not the same as the figures above. Locums would get me £85-110 an hour depending on time.

"Just 12,100 teenagers applied to study medicine at university this year" Can this number in the Telegraph be right? Are we approaching a situation where everyone who wants to study Medicine will get a place, because the job at the other end is so underpaid and undesirable???

I’m a pharmacist in primary care with special interest in hypertension and I would love to know whether this is a “system/process” issue or an individual issue. I’ve seen people with 200systolic bp referred by duty drs sent back to primary care with a ccb as they were asymptomatic

3 patients this week sent from pharmacies with “high blood pressure” to ED. All went in to buy something totally unrelated and offered free-check. Completely asymptomatic. Highest reading between them 165/95. All sent straight to A&E. one offered an ambulance 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ @NHSEngland

@Neil_J_Smart @EightyNine79599 @DrJSherrington @Derriford_Hosp By contrast in the hospital I work in in New Zealand parking costs $12.60 (about £6-7) per week, there’s basically always space. And there’s a separate consultant car park too. Hearing about stuff like this does make me think twice about coming back…

People need to understand about derogations that hospitals have been abusing the word "emergency" to force doctors to work for years. Rota gaps known about months in advance and unfilled because of poor rates are declared "emergencies" rather than offering more money. 1/2

@EmergMedDr I’ve always moved when I was unhappy with my earnings (or worked hard for promotion). It sickens me to watch newly graduated without experience feeling they unlike a qualified developer or coder should not get experience related pay. You clearly lack vocation.

@Personoftalent @zackferguson @5012Carm @righty63 The highest locum hourly rate I got in the UK was probably about £58. For a night shift in an extremely busy and short staffed A+E as an SHO (more senior than an F1). I’ve now moved to New Zealand and get $140 (£70)/hour for a 9-5 house officer (same as F1) locum as standard.

I’m a medical registrar. I’ve been a qualified doctor for 10 years, in training for 16. Out of hours, I’m the most senior physician on site caring for acutely unwell patients. I recently returned from paternity to work 60% as it’s the only way we could make childcare work. (1/4)

@Personoftalent @zackferguson @5012Carm @righty63 You can do extra shifts, but these are EXTRA and the hours are already pretty unsociable. If you can find me a bank F1 shift paying £62/hour I’d love to see it. In Glasgow it would be ~£19 if the extra shift was 9-5, slightly more ooh, a lot less than £62
