BREAKING
John Giles, the Republican mayor of Mesa, AZ announced he is endorsing Kamala Harris for President: "Our party used to stand for the belief that every Arizonan, no matter their background or circumstances, should have the freedom, opportunity and security to live out their American Dream.
But since Donald Trump refused to accept the outcome of the 2020 election, Republicans have yet to course correct. The Republican Party with Trump at its helm continues down the path of political extremism, away from focusing on our fundamental freedoms...
In the spirit of the late Sen. John McCain’s motto, “Country First,” I call on other Arizona Republicans to join me in choosing country over party this election and to vote against Donald Trump."

It says a lot about the state of American politics, and perhaps especially in progressive circles, that one of the ‘cons’ of #KamalaHarris selecting Gov. Josh Shapiro as her VP, is that he is Jewish and the pushback this might receive.
This from CNN coverage.

Are you kidding me, @washingtonpost? You may have deleted the post, but the thoughtless characterization of Omer Neutra's parents - who have spent the last 287 days not knowing the fate of their son after he was kidnapped by terrorists on Oct 7 - remains in your article.
In what world did anyone find it acceptable to publish in the first place?
And to add insult to injury, the article cites "local officials," aka the Gaza Health Ministry, which is run by Hamas - the terror organization that launched the barbaric 10/7 massacre that led to the ongoing war.

This morning, I spoke to a friend in Gaza whom I had made during my time as a foreign correspondent. He telephoned me from his stifling tent in Deir al Balah, which had been donated by the Saudis.
“Food is available, everything is available,” he told me. “Meat, chicken, vegetables. It is not aid. It is coming from Israel, brought in by private people through the Keren Shalom crossing and sold to us as a business. The prices are much better, just a little bit higher than before the war.”
This was a relief, he added, as for seven months, Hamas had been stealing humanitarian aid and selling it to the population at exorbitant rates. Now, goods are being bought and sold as normal. Everybody he knows hates the jihadists with a passion, he remarked, scoffing at polls showing widespread support for the group in Gaza…
Sometimes it seems that western progressives have more sympathy for Hamas and a greater alignment with its goals than those who have actually experienced jihadism in Gaza.

Thanks so much @FedEx @FedExHelp for your crappy service - charging me $68 to deliver a package by noon yesterday, then saying it will be noon today - now saying end of day. No response to emails. No help or apology when I call customer service. Never again.

Unbelievable scene right now @CalStateLA. Vandals now looting the student services building where a parade of large furniture, office electronics, and equipment are walking out of the building.

🚨The Gloves are off: According to @jewishinsider, the @ADL filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission against Jewish Voice for Peace for multiple alleged violations of federal election law and regulation:
🔸️ JVP Action PAC is accused of misrepresenting its role, using funds primarily for legal and administrative costs rather than supporting federal candidates, contrary to its own FEC filings.
🔸️ A significant portion of the PAC’s budget goes towards legal, administrative, and operating expenses. “For a PAC to spend such a large share of its fund on legal and compliance vendors is unusual,” states the complaint.
🔸️ Steve Sheinberg, ADL’s chief legal officer, noted ADL's regular monitoring of anti-Israel groups and called JVP “a fringe group… dedicated to eliminating Israel.”
🔸️ Financial activities included: $28,000 spent on administrative fees in the current cycle, $53,000 on operating expenses in 2022-2023, including a dubious $19,656 payment to an insurance company not known for legal services.
🔸️ The PAC reported minimal direct candidate support: $1,775 in cash and $4,176.01 in in-kind contributions to House campaigns.
🔸️ In 2021, JVP transferred $4,999.50 to the PAC, which funded a billboard advertisement.
🔸️ The complaint highlights "significant and unexplained inconsistencies" in the PAC’s financial reports, such as reporting negative balances without disclosing debts or overdrafts.
🔸️ The PAC reportedly received double the annual allowable donation from two donors in 2022, without refunding the excess.
🔸️ Despite receiving four FEC warning letters, the PAC has not adequately responded to three, failing to amend reports as noted.
🔸️ The complaint also alleges illegal links between the PAC and another JVP arm, involving unreported in-kind contributions like web hosting and event support. "The full amount of the remaining support constitutes a prohibited in-kind corporate contribution from JVP Action to JVP PAC,” the complaint alleges.

@franklinleonard Still, if you know that 2/3 of jewish students hear it as a threat, wouldn’t the kind gracious thing be to alter your words?

I’m glad there are numbers on this and I hope we keep all of them in mind.

Reminder from University of Chicago poll: When Muslim students hear "FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA," 76% understand it to mean Arabs and Jews living together in two states or one state; but 66% of Jewish students take it to mean Palestinians should replace Israelis in the territory.

A reminder that Trump asked Congress to reject their own border bill, because without the fear mongering of the Border to campaign on...He Cant get elected
Thereby making the Border a Political scam...not a crisis...
because if it was a crisis, no way congress would kill their own bill and then go on vacation....that would be irresponsible

“You just have to ask yourself, how you could have an event on using rape as a tactic of war against women and girls…and you include the most recent horrendous example out of Israel—and that brings out the protestors.”
