GOOD NEWS: The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs has passed my legislation that would allow surviving spouses of fallen servicemembers to retain their @DeptofWar & @DeptVetAffairs benefits even if they remarry.

This morning during the Intelligence Committee’s annual hearing on worldwide threats, I questioned @CIADirector about the impact of Operation Epic Fury on the global oil supply chain & how that is affecting the ongoing war in Ukraine. ⬇️

GOOD NEWS: DOT & FAA are requiring air traffic controllers to coordinate aviation traffic near our nation’s busiest airports using radar technology, no longer relying on visual separation to maintain a safe distance between airplanes & helicopters. This is an important step to improve the safety of our skies & make certain a tragedy like the one at DCA last year never happens again.

Great to see @rookisaacman standing up for Pluto & supporting its restoration as a planet. Kansas has a long history in space science from Clyde Tombaugh - the farm boy from Burdett who discovered Pluto in 1930 - to our world-class aerospace manufacturing, the critical NASA Earth science data that helps our farmers every day, & @the_cosmosphere inspiring the next generation of explorers. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease that affects millions of Americans and their families. I appreciate the tireless work of @ALZIMPACT to improve treatments and care for those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. I cosponsored the AADAPT Act to increase access to timely, accurate diagnoses, which can lead to better outcomes for patients.

PASSED: My legislation, the Streamlining Rural Housing Act, was included in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act that was approved by the Senate this week. The bill would support housing in rural communities by simplifying housing programs and reducing unnecessary bureaucratic barriers. I urge the House to pass this bill and send it to the President so we can continue to strengthen rural America and improve access to affordable housing.

Enjoyed meeting with @KansasBankers during their visit to D.C. to discuss the important role of community banks in our state. We talked about the need to adjust inflation indexing thresholds to help local lenders avoid burdensome compliance issues & how Congress can provide more stability in the financial system, particularly for local banks. Thank you for meeting with me.

Enjoyed speaking with @KSFarmBureau while they were in D.C. for their biannual fly-in. We discussed several of issues facing our ag producers, & I shared an update on the Senate & my work to permanently move the administration of Food for Peace to USDA to make certain the program fulfills its mission of feeding the hungry, creating important markets for farmers & bolstering our national security. I also appreciated visiting with Anna Luna & her daughter Olivia from my hometown of Plainville. Anna & her husband, Jesse, own a farm & ranch & have been recognized by KFB for their involvement & leadership in agriculture. I enjoyed the update on their farm, our hometown & Olivia’s plans to attend K-State to become a veterinarian. Thanks for meeting with me!

Nine U.S. military veterans are competing for Team USA in the 2026 Paralympics in Milan-Cortina this year, including four-time Nordic Skiing Paralympian, Dan Cnossen, from Topeka, KS. Our country is grateful to Dan and all our Paralympic athletes for their service, sacrifice & continued representation of our nation around the world.

Despite several aviation-related security incidents over the weekend, including a bomb threat at MCI, TSA agents are facing the possibility of missing a paycheck next week. Congress must end the pointless @DHSgov shutdown to make certain the men & women who keep our airports safe are paid & travelers are safe while flying.
