@atlurbanist Because that's what a transit corridor looks like and most people enjoy the linear park and restaurants that we have on the Beltline.
English

It seems bat-poop insane to me that the City of Atlanta already has the funding & planning in place to build this on the Eastside Beltline, but the so-called 'transit mayor' has scuttled it for political reasons. I want to live in the alternate timeline where Dickens does right.

@JamesSurowiecki Disappointed. Just like with Malcolm Gladwell, I now know the author couldn't have understood what they purported to write about.

I cannot believe this. Kelsey Plum really thinks that if she earned a dollar more (giving her a million-dollar salary), she would have to pay an extra $13,000 in income tax.
That is not how marginal tax rates work! If she earned a dollar more, she'd pay an extra 13 cents.

Stop offering Kelsey Plum $1 😂

Compiler construction is one of the oldest, best understood CS fields. It's decades of work by the brightest minds, and it's grounded in logic, informed by experience and strictly deterministic.
Comparing that with LLM-based coding agents is just wrong.

100 MHz was more than adequate to run a GUI. At 100 fps, we had a budget of 1 million cycles per frame.
At 4 GHz with 8 cores, no UI task should ever take more than 1 ms. We have 320 MHz per frame available.
What the actual fuck is Microsoft doing these days?!

I worked on the XP run dialog. I'm a grizzled old man now, barely recognizable in the mirror, but even I think 94ms is a long-assed time to wait for a dialog to open.

@the_transit_guy Atlanta to NYC is nonstop an hour and forty minutes. Who would want a train instead?
English

Domestic air fare is not going to get cheaper in this country, and we’ve ignored rail investment as we thought that cheap flights would always be a thing. That’s not the case, and now we have no rail as a viable alternative.

Among the things I'm famous for is being that guy who proved this wrong in 2007 by creating a program that would "sidejack" every non-HTTPS page. Back then, that's how it worked, even programs like GMail: only the password login was encrypted with HTTPS.

Even at the most expensive cost assumptions, you could build this network by just using the next 10-15 years of money spent on expanding highways.
For people who say “it can’t be done”: it can be done, we just need to fund it.

@the_transit_guy The existence of roads doesn't imply the existence of rail demand.

@ZachNagel7 Or on East West, get off at either MLK or Inman Park and walk 5-7 minutes to Krog.
