In a real-world cohort of >44,000 adults with BMI ≥35, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass achieved ~22–30% total weight loss at 2–3 years, vs ~7–12% with semaglutide/tirzepatide, even with continuous GLP-1RA use. Bariatric surgery remains the most effective durable option for patients eligible for both. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.100…

I have noticed in clinical practice patients who have been on highest #obesity medications for some time who feel: 1) Appetite increasing significantly 2) Food noise at a high level. And some started experiencing: Weight regain Have you noticed this in practice?

🚨 Obesity care has changed dramatically since AGA first introduced the POWER framework in 2017. Our new commentary in Gastroenterology, “Revisiting POWER in the GLP-1 Age,” updates the framework to reflect today’s treatment landscape, including: ☑️ GLP-1 receptor agonists ☑️ Endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies ☑️ Expanded bariatric surgery indications ☑️ Advances in precision medicine The commentary emphasizes that medications are just one piece of comprehensive obesity care. Gastroenterologists and hepatologists are uniquely positioned to help patients navigate a growing range of treatment options while managing obesity-related conditions such as: 🫀 MASLD 🔥 GERD 🩺 Gallbladder disease 📖 Read more here: ow.ly/OmA750ZcOhc Join the authors for a live webinar on July 15: ow.ly/eKCK50ZcOhb. Published today, the first-ever clinical practice guideline on cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome from the American Heart Association and @ACCinTouch. Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome staging is recommended for youths and adults to prevent CKM syndrome stage progression, to tailor therapy to absolute risk, to reduce cardiovascular events and loss of kidney function across the life course, and to promote CKM syndrome stage regression through lifestyle changes and weight loss. The diagnosis of CKM syndrome stage requires assessment of metabolic health, kidney function, and cardiovascular risk factors, which enhances the identification of frequently unrecognized or asymptomatic CKM conditions. ✍🏼 @ChiadiNdumele @HeartDocSadiya @kardiologykazi @noshreza @virani_md @biykemb @NutritionHF @mandeepbajaj65 @KatherineTuttl8 @RangaswJ @lisaVWMD @KBreathettMD @EmoryFamMed @ShoaClarke @mad_sters @jmortonmd @sripalbangalore @AnumSaeedMD

Very similar though less in scale to the less cancer after surgical weight loss- beyond biology pts w obesity (PWO) undergoing weight loss likely accessed health care more often resulting in better screening and treatment for cancer in PWO yielded better results w weight loss pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35657620/
