And while we are talking about probable deforestation thanks to the energy crisis, guess what Forest Survey of India has done. On 10 March, it stopped its AI-based fortnightly alerts to states on deforestation. This will cost the country.

For those of you who are struggling with the state of the world, and find yourselves with tears or so much emotion it can feel overwhelming: I hope you never lose your capacity to experience empathy, because it makes you human. It is abnormal to not feel anything, and to blindly adapt to a fundamentally unjust world. Let your love move you to solidarity and action and community, to be an example for what is possible and help create a world that is different.

Imagine if this was nuclear waste.
One issue is the incapacity of installed infra for sewage and effluent treatment. However the bigger problem is that whatever that exists as installed on paper and is actually treating the waste properly. It isn’t.
There is no accountability to show results. There are no checks and balances. There are no live trackers. It is a giant swindle.

A quiet shift in India’s tax structure:
Cess & Surcharge collections by the Union Govt:
2016-17 → Rs. 1.99 lakh crore
2025-26 → Rs. 5.82 lakh crore
2026-27 → Rs. 6.30 lakh crore
More than tripled within a decade!!
Cesses & surcharges are not shared with States - effectively shrinking the divisible tax pool. The more they grow, the smaller the divisible pool becomes.
That’s how fiscal federalism quietly shrinks.
