The real equity issue in this budget is that Labor are telling us they need to borrow $267 billion of extra debt over the next four years to pay for their out-of-control spending. That is almost identical to the total value of the headline budget deficits that Labor say they will produce between now and 2029-30. The fairness issue is that Labor is spending hundreds of billions of dollars borrowed from future generations to buy votes in the present. If it kept government spending as a share of the economy, or GDP, at 2007-08 levels, when Australia was doing very well indeed, the budget would swing from a projected $64 billion headline deficit to a surplus of about $23 billion. Rather than borrowing from future taxpayers, we would be reducing their debt burden. It is un-Australian to overturn all the rules of the economic and investment game — adversely affecting millions of households and businesses in the process— with zero debate, discussion or notice. The accounting and legal costs alone will impose a small fortune on families and firms. How Labor thought they could get away with this daylight robbery is unclear. You'll never pay 47% tax on nominal capital gains. Top marginal rates pay effective rate of 27.3% on 5yr hold 30.1% on 10yr hold One of the lowest rates in the world. Other countries tax the whole gain, Australia doesnt. Facts matter over your ideological game.

@Ausproperty95 100% correct CPI is a con if used as an annual inflation indicator because true annual inflation is much higher double & more in some instances .

You just got scammed. The purpose of CPI is to hide true inflation by presenting you a lower number. Indexing cost base will rely on this artificially low number.

So its like this. You work for 45 years, you buy a house and pay it off. Meantime you buy some shares and some other property to help pay the way in retirement. The whole way through you had to pay tax BEFORE you put money into these investments. But according to @tanya_plibersek, your kids should be paying tax again when you die. Ponder that. Why save? While the rest of the nation gets hit with higher capital gains tax, there’s a special carve-out for foreign investors in renewable energy. They get to keep the 50% CGT discount at a cost of $425 million to the taxpayer. Foreign investors already don’t pay Capital Gains tax on shares and intangible assets. Why didn’t Chalmers crack down on them? The answer of course is that the Labor party, like the Liberal party are controlled by foreign interests.! But wait there’s more. Under the capacity investment scheme underwriting agreements, if the actual revenue earned by a project is below the agreed revenue floor, the Australian government will pay the project operator 90 per cent of the revenue shortfall up to the agreed annual cap for 15 yrs. (see comments) The Labor government will grant “whatever it takes” subsidies to ensure “renewable” energy is a part of the energy grid, no matter the cost to the taxpayer. But in keeping with the government vibe of transparency the cost of the scheme can’t be disclosed and I quote. “The CIS is listed in the budget papers as a contingent liability, alongside the Snowy 2.0 hydro electric scheme, which has already blown out in costs by billions. According to the budget papers, "The Australian government's maximum liability and estimated payments under these (CIS) agreements are not for publication due to commercial sensitivities". It’s not hard to see why the major parties are struggling. Wasting taxpayers money and refusing to disclose it has to stop.
