@ScoringChanges Full ABS dragged the game down, IMO. It was especially brutal when a position player came in to pitch and the ump had to call the strike zone to the letter of the law.

It is not used every pitch because they have experimented with it. The current process in place was used for years in Triple-A. At one time in Triple-A, games Tuesday-Thursday was considered Full ABS, where the home plate umpire wore an earpiece and the pitch was called. A ball or a strike in their ear, and they would relay the call. Friday-Sunday were ABS Challenge games.
By and large, players, fans, and umpire preferred the challenge games to full ABS.

Eat me alive for this take all you want, fine. Here’s my thoughts, though:
Was Quinn Buffalo’s worst player tonight? God no. But to see a guy consistently look so out of sorts in all situations more nights than not is a waste of space in the lineup, especially come the playoffs.

@ByMHarrington I liked the scheduling when they first came out of the lockout. Heavy division focus and only 10 games against the other conference. But people whined that they wouldn’t see Crosby/Ovechkin every year.

This is a legit counterpoint. My rebuttal would be then let's play more than four times in the regular season and make rivalries real again before the playoffs. There's literally zero animus right now between Buffalo and Boston. They've played twice since October.

The Sabres are a really good team that’s capable of making run in the Eastern Conference but I don’t believe they’re a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.
They’ve had great goaltending and have been amazing at finishing during their last 40+ games but are average in other areas.
