After nearly seven years at the @LowyInstitute, I'll be leaving in a few months to join @dfat as the next lead economist for the Pacific. I'm sad to leave but looking forward to the new challenge of helping shape Australia's Pacific policies from the inside. 1/2

Worth keeping this in mind. Chinese commercial interests in the Pacific are not monolithic! Below from the excellent @anudpa paper on Chinese companies in the Pacific by @GraemeKSmith @DariImpio @tarcisius_tara and @henrykszad

That’s a wrap! After a phenomenal seven years at the @LowyInstitute last Friday was my last day. I’ll miss the place and the people dearly, but excited for new challenges at @dfat. I’ll be a bit quieter on Twitter, but will still be working hard on Australia-Pacific relations!

Congratulations, @AlboMP! Of your many promises to support the Pacific, none is more welcome than your plan to put the climate first –– our people's shared future depends on it. With Fiji’s borders open, we hope to host you soon!

I was pleased to host the Director-General of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service, Paul Symon, at the @LowyInstitute today. Paul gave a very interesting speech to mark ASIS’s 70th birthday and participated in a conversation with me. Watch out for the video soon.

Have you heard about China's base in Solomon Islands?!?
On @devpolicy I explain why much of what you've heard is worse than wrong. It's harmful - both to people in the Pacific & to our own interests. devpolicy.org/solomons-secur…
