THE CONFEDERACY CAN NOT BE DEFINED BASED ON SLAVERY ALONE. Four of the eleven Southern states did not join in the first wave of secession and did not secede over slavery.  Those four states—Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia—only seceded months later when Lincoln made it clear he was going to launch an invasion in order to “save” the Union.  In fact, those states initially voted against secession by fairly sizable majorities.  However, they believed the Union should not be maintained by force.  Therefore, when Lincoln announced he was calling up 75,000 troops to form an invasion, they held new votes, and in each case the vote was strongly in favor of secession.  Thus, four of the eleven states that comprised the Confederacy seceded because of their objection to federal coercion and not because of issues surrounding slavery. THE COMMON DENOMINATOR WAS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OVERREACH. THIS WAS THE REASON FOR SECESSION.

@MrDanielBuck The student definitely needs a consequence for the behavior. That's how life works. However, the reason why he or she said that would need to be rooted out as well. There definitely are reasons behind how our students behave. However, they don't just get a pass.

Hear me out: If a student calls their teacher a "f---ing b-tch," they don't need a hug, a bag of Takis, and some time to cool down in a bean bag chair They need to get marched out of the school

@hell_line0 In my home, I do the majority of the cooking. My 5 kids are served first, then my wife, then me. We all sit down together for a meal. But by the time I fix my plate, the kids are already wanting seconds! Good grief!!

I once saw a lady telling a story. Her sons friend came to visit in her house. And it was lunch time so she invited them both to the table. And the sons friend started asking “are you sure you have enough food for all of us? Maybe your husband can eat first. In our house we don’t eat until the dad if full, and then we eat what’s left and sometimes there’s nothing left. But dad is provider he has to eat so your husband should eat first”. I was like poor boy raised by dude with no balls wtf 😭

@MrDanielBuck I teach A&P, Chem I/II, and Bio I. My typical class size is 25. How in the Good Lord's name am I going to safely fit 50 kids in my crowded room???

Hear me out: I’m convinced that INCREASING class sizes would actually improve education Why? How? Simple: Teacher quality is the single most important in-school factor Consider something radical: Double class sizes and you could cut the worst 50 percent of teachers Think “can hardly do middle school academics themselves” kind of teachers That also would allow SIGNIFICANTLY higher wages, drawing much higher quality candidates If schools actually have the stones to enforce discipline, there’s no reason a larger class would be more raucous. College lecture halls have hundreds of quiet students after all Only people this would really piss off are unions and low quality teachers. Well I say “stay mad” and improve schools regardless

@TheAtomicBagel @RooftopAssyrian @rawmilkhoney How do they work 9 hours more? Additionally they get 2 weeks off for Christmas / New Years, a week off for spring break, 2 months off for summer, all federal holidays, school hours 8-3:30pm with 1 hour lunch and some with 1 hour without a class…

@Mr_Husky1 Bless her and you. This situation mirrors my second oldest daughter's situation. And, she also found solace in creative arts. I pray God lifts you and your daughter up and helps to heal any wounds caused by those bullies.

My daughter is 12 years old. She doesn't have many friends, and last year, the bullying at school got so bad I'd find her hiding in the bathroom during lunch. So she spends most of her time with me, watching me fill orders for my Tedooo app shop. She's been quietly taking my yarn for weeks, working on something secret in her room. Last night she came out wearing this scarf she made completely by herself. "Mom," she said, "I want my own Tedooo app shop someday. For kids like me who create things instead of having friends." I had to leave the room so she wouldn't see me cry. This child who eats lunch alone, who hasn't been invited to a birthday party in two years, found her salvation in loops of yarn and dreams of her own craft business. This morning I found her practicing new stitches at 6 AM. "For my future customers," she explained. My beautiful, resilient girl turning her loneliness into art. That scarf isn't just well-made for a 12-year-old - it's stunning, period. The tension is perfect, the color changes are seamless, and that fringe? Professional level. But more than that, it's proof that while other kids were busy excluding her, she was busy becoming extraordinary. Please, if you see this, leave her some encouragement. She reads every comment on my Tedooo app posts, studying what customers like. Your words might be the first kindness she's heard from peers in months. Show her that the craft community celebrates the quiet, talented kids who create beauty while the world tries to dim their light. Sometimes the best revenge against bullies isn't fighting back - it's becoming so talented they'll one day brag they knew you when. Credit - sanka dassanayake

Whatever happened to teachers supporting other teachers????? So many folks on this platform are constantly bashing other teachers. We should be cheering each other on given the climate we live in.

Replacing explicit instruction with discovery learning has been one of the most damaging instructional practices in modern education. To reject explicit instruction is to reject the science of learning in favor of your feelings, not how learning actually works.

Parents drinking with their underage kids is really bad form. This past summer, I sat and watched in the home next to where I lived teenagers doing beer bongs while their parents cheered them on. Then, mom and dad both joined in. I don’t care how you try to justify it - the message you’re sending is all wrong. “If they’re gonna drink, I want them drinking under my supervision.” Such BS. Your kids are not your drinking buddies. Be the adult. Set the standard. Grow up.

My two cents on @HawleyMO going against POTUS on the Venezuela thing - and I haven’t spoken to Josh or anyone in Hawley World on the issue prior to the vote or since. My non-Missouri friends think it’s a bad vote back home. I’m not convinced it is. Historically, ours has always been one of the most reliably isolationist states in the country; that holds true today. Josh’s vote reflects that. There’s a *sizable* portion of Missourians who don’t want us to get involved in *anything*, internationally. Ignoring this commonplace is naive. And the idea there’s a sizable contingent of Hawley voters who are gonna chuck him because of a vote over fucking Venezuela doesn’t hold water with me. *As for me: I’m glad we bombed them and kidnapped that POS and hope we take as much of their oil for ourselves as we can. But that’s me. I’m an asshole.

In Jefferson City and elsewhere, Missouri Republicans need to stop dealing with Missouri Democrats as if they’re a legitimate political party. They aren’t. They’re an ongoing criminal enterprise and must be treated as such. PQ literally every priority in #moleg.
