Jim Heinitz coached football, but his players left with lessons they used their whole lives. He faithfully served Augustana football for more than 20 years and became the Vikings’ all-time winningest coach. His legacy at the Sioux Falls university was cememted when the Vikings named the football field at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Heinitz’s honor. Heinitz and his teams not only won North Central Conference titles, but the Mountain Lake (MN) native played in that conference. Heinitz was an All-NCC linebacker for South Dakota State in 1971 after overcoming numerous injuries. Help celebrate Jim and 18 others who will be inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame Sept. 22 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center (old SF Arena). Click on link below to buy tickets.
