Update: The accused was just acquitted. Not because he is innocent or found not guilty. But because too many of the witnesses were his friends and refused to 'snitch', and the Crown was weak. So many lives have been affected by this murderer and rapist, and he is once again free.

@k_nelles @FixingEducation I sympathize with that problem. I do wonder if putting highschool aged teenagers on the same bus (route and schedule) as elementary school aged pre-teens has given you other problems? Does the rural district wind up running two or more buses, to enforce age-segregation?

@JM4LISD @FixingEducation It's not the scheduling, it's the cost. I'm in a rural community, and all our students are bused to school. If some start early, and some start late, the bus would need to make 2 runs at different times.

@k_nelles @FixingEducation I don't see busing, per se, as a bigger problem. Designing the schedules, once or twice a year, maybe. But we have software to help with that. Flexible scheduling can be set to put students on the road at slightly different times of day than workers, can't it?

@JM4LISD @FixingEducation I love this. I've often said high school should have 5 periods in a day, but students/teachers only have 4. They can start early/end early, or start late/end late, or take a big break in the middle - whatever suits their individual needs. I know - busing would be a nightmare...

Why should a school start time be standardized? Why not earlier for elementary and later for high school? Why not stagger bus routes and school start times to avoid the workers on the roads to their jobs? Why not get more use of a school building by having two "shifts", early and late?

In the 1980s, musician Daryl Davis set out to understand the Ku Klux Klan. So he started befriending members at Klan rallies and joined an all-white country band. Then, he met Imperial Wizard Roger Kelly. Davis spent years building a relationship with Kelly, establishing trust and, eventually, a friendship. They ate meals at each others' homes while Davis listened to Kelly, seeking to see how he could hate a person like Davis without even knowing him. Eventually, Kelly started listening to Davis and left the Klan altogether, giving Davis his robes and hood. And over the past decades, Davis has now convinced over 200 former Klan members to walk away.

@ohsixsilverado @Mr_S_Ont @JBradshaw01 Employees shouldn't have to prop up the system they work in. If that's also happening to you, then you should speak up and try to stop it. I'd support you in that effort.

I don’t think that it will catch on, but I would like to start a hashtag or at least a thread where educators share things (good, bad, or neutral) about education that they wish people knew. #DidUKnowEdu?

Do people realize that other than the de-streaming of grade 9, the Ontario grades 9-12 science curriculum hasn't been updated in nearly 20 years? We're talking pre-iPhone, Pluto just recently demoted times. #OntEd

@k_nelles I wish that the mudslinging and personal attacks were not accepted as just part of the job. I think it keeps a lot of good people out of politics-especially women and racialized people.

It looks like Bonnie Crombie is doing the honourable thing here, based on the feedback she received from Ontario Liberal party members. It will be interesting to see who will fill her shoes.

@Mr_S_Ont @ohsixsilverado @JBradshaw01 And every year, the number goes down in June (sometimes students just forget to return, sometimes they've lost them), and up in September (I've been to yardsales or value village!)

@Mr_S_Ont @ohsixsilverado @JBradshaw01 Excellent example. I have over 600 books in my classroom because our library was repurposed as a 'classroom'. Lack of funds means the collection is now vintage. Most parents claim they want their child to read more, but few provide interesting books (or trips to the library).

@JBradshaw01 You don't remember it because some of what we teach is scaffolding for a bigger concept, but it isn't really used outside of the classroom. Expanded form, for example. It helps scaffold for Scientific Notation, but I'm unaware of a use outside of class.

@JBradshaw01 I would like parents to know that it's not 'new math'. When you haven't seen it since grade 8, you forget you did it, but I promise I didn't make it up. #DidUKnowEdu?

@ccouja @Iwearcoolshoes This is the first time I've heard anything that makes remotely any sense as to why it was agreed to in the first place. Thank you. I still hope they get a good and fair deal. AC is certainly capable of valuing their employees.

@Iwearcoolshoes There is apparently complex tax implications if they are paid on the ground while outside of Canada. It’s major inconvenience for both the employees and AC so they agreed to be paid more after cabin door is closed as a compensation.

I'm a Union member, and I've never seen their contract, but I want to know why the fuck AC Flight Attendants were working for "free"? Did they agree to this in their last contact, or why wasn't a grievance filed? Either they got something in exchange, or their Union failed them.

@Lasirois77 @EScrimshaw I get that people like the dopamine hit of saying “I support feeding hungry children”without having to pay for it. I get that it “feels good” But respectfully, you guys have no clue what you’re talking about, and if you talk to people who actually teach, they think it’s insane

@NotHoodlum This breaks my heart. He was a very versatile actor. Comedy, drama, action, even musical roles. He could nail them all. My all time favorite was Top Secret. I knew he had health issues for years. Still he will be missed.😥

@happiestskipper @gunsnrosesgirl3 I've worn out two copies of Clan of the Cave Bear (from reading it so many tines) and dropped another copy in a lake- I'm on my 4th copy. Two of my children's names were heavily influenced by character names.
