@thraceenjoyer39 @KBuyukyuksel Did you return power to the lawful government? Dont play with words and then act surprised when people call your BS. EU diplomats know what you are but they dont speak up for Greece. They do speak up for Israel though. Get ready for the unveiling of Turkish illegalities

Calling 1974 simply an “invasion” erases key facts. Cyprus was an independent state under a guarantor system (UK, Greece, Turkey) established by the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee, which allowed action if the constitutional order collapsed. In 1974, Greece’s irredentist military junta backed a far-right coup (with EOKA B) to annex Cyprus (enosis), installing Nikos Sampson, driven by ultra-nationalist authoritarian aims. This was also set against a Cold War backdrop where the US prioritized NATO cohesion, maintained close ties with Greece’s far-right anti-communist military regime and viewed President Makarios’ non-aligned foreign policy stance in Cyprus with suspicion, the crisis unfolded within a broader geopolitical context. Violence against Turkish Cypriots had already escalated since the 1960s with the breakdown of the 1960 power-sharing constitution, intercommunal conflict, and the deployment of UN peacekeepers (UNFICYP) in 1964. Turkey intervened as a guarantor power under that framework, after the coup, not out of nowhere, citing its treaty rights and after calls for joint action with other guarantors failed. The crisis also triggered the fall of the far-right Greek military regime and paved the way for Greece’s return to democracy. Since then, multiple UN reunification plans were proposed. Turkish Cypriots accepted the 2004 UN Annan Plan, Greek Cypriots rejected it. The EU then admitted the Republic of Cyprus alone, which complicated incentives for a negotiated settlement and did not necessarily help prospects for reconciliation. The history is contested and complex, not a one-line story about occupation or invasion.

Dear Charles, since you are talking about double standards, let me remind you that Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and still occupies European territory, 🇨🇾🇪🇺

@TurokNebesny @romanhelmetguy What a loser way of thinking. Turkey could have been an ally if their leaders didnt fanaticize the people with neo-ottoman fantasies.

Can you imagine, VDL is so stupid to suggest Europe does not want Turkish influences, when Türkiye is a lynchpin NATO member and running the annual NATO summit this year.

@publicfool31 @GrudgerUK @andreasuzumo If TR blocks Pax Judaica, Israel will go to great lengths to destroy your capacity to fight them. Greece is just tagging along the newly formed reality of US/IL since EU is divided and wont act on South East Med issues. So yeah…go f yourselves if u dream of neo-ottomanism

There are things 🇬🇷 officials don’t understand. In the past, perception management built on lies could be easily carried out through the media. But nowadays, everyone can access accurate information transparently.Even the🇺🇸 can’t pull off this kind of perception management anymore

@GrudgerUK @publicfool31 @andreasuzumo Thats quite true but what can you do…. Each country plays its strengths. GR has little upside and also little downside while TR has huge potential upside but also huge downside. If Erdoganism doesnt work and you become a pariah, you’re fucked

@NATOpress Turkey would be a valuable ally but they dont do the necessary changes so they remain an unpredictable ally. The communication efforts of NATO to make them feel better after a VonderLeyen comment prove their sensitivity and unpredictability

.@vonderleyen: Türkiye is: - a core #NATO ally, - a key migration partner, - an energy corridor, - a major defence actor on Europe’s flank, - and a serious regional power. Europe doesn’t get stronger by applying double standards or simplifying reality.
Bloomberg@business

The European Union sought to ease tensions with Turkey after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen named the country alongside Russia and China, creating the impression that the NATO partner was seen as a potential threat. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
