On the American and Canadian sides of the Niagara Gorge, the 2 hydropower plants harness this 300 feet "high head" plunge of water: 🇺🇸⚡️Robert Moses @NYPAenergy generates 2,675 MW 🇨🇦⚡️Sir Adam Beck @opg generates 2,400 MW There is an even taller, extreme plant in Labrador.🧵

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the liquid propellant rocket made by Robert H. Goddard A century later, we’re still going on with astronomical progress influenced and powered by liquid propellant engines

To understand what’s going on with stablecoins and finance right now, ponder this: Using USDC on Base, you can send any amount of money to anyone anywhere in the world for less than a penny and in under a second. Consider all the billion-dollar giants whose entire business model is charging you rent on what crypto makes essentially free. What crypto is going to do to banks and legacy payment is like what AI will do for white-collar labor: a generational WTF moment that will make everyone scramble toward a new order.

Amazon, your package has been delivered. Ariane 6 has lifted off for the first time with four boosters, making it our most powerful European launcher! On board: 32 satellites for Amazon’s constellation. Amazon chose Europe for this major launch. A French feat, a European success: we’re reaching new heights. Congratulations to the teams.

I remember when Marshall T. Savage published "The Millennial Project" by in 1992/1994. The "Avalon" phase of TMP had a Mass Launcher System linking the Lunar economy with civilization expanding from Earth. However, AI wasn't predicated as the demand. nytimes.com/2026/02/10/tec…

In a powerful blend of history and modern technology, India’s Chandrayaan-2 orbiter has captured stunning high-resolution images of the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 landing sites, offering fresh visual proof of humanity’s first steps on the Moon. The photos show the exact spots where astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and later Pete Conrad and Alan Bean left their footprints, planted flags, and deployed scientific instruments over half a century ago. Now, from a new perspective high above the lunar surface, Chandrayaan-2 has confirmed those locations with crystal clarity, marking a moment of global pride for space enthusiasts everywhere. This isn’t just about validating history—it’s about how far we’ve come. A country that watched the Moon landings on black-and-white TVs is now photographing the same scenes with its own spacecraft. It’s a poetic milestone for a rising space power, reminding the world that the Moon still holds meaning, mystery, and shared legacy. India’s achievement not only reinforces its space capabilities—it also bridges generations. From Apollo to Chandrayaan, the Moon still reflects our story.

New post from @RunMattW and me about solar powered AI datacenters from first principles. Key takeaway is that if you can build solar for under $250k/MW and batteries for under $250k/MWh, it's cheaper to delete everything else. No gas, no grid, no nothing. caseyhandmer.wordpress.com/2026/01/30/dir…

@NYPAenergy @opg @hydroquebec @NLHydro Churchill Falls Generating Station is located in subarctic conditions with lengthy, cold winters and deep snow. To protect plant employees and equipment, most of the $1 billion power station was tunneled out hundreds of feet underground in hard Canadian Shield granite. End 🧵

@NYPAenergy @opg @hydroquebec @NLHydro Harnessing reservoir waters flowing 1000+ feet back down in to the Lower Churchill, Churchill Falls Generating Station makes ⚡️5,428 MW of power - more than both Niagara hydropower projects combined - but with ~30% of the water flow of Niagara projects. 🧵

Including the extra water artificially diverted to Lake Superior from Long Lake and Ogoki River, 1.5 million gallons per second flows in to the Niagara River. The 1950 Niagara Treaty governs how much water Canada and USA can harness for hydropower. 🧵 x.com/kavanagh/statu…

By 1943 the Ogoki Diversion built a complex of dams raising the Ogoki River by 12m, blocking its flow to the Hudson Bay and channeling 113 m3/s of water via Lake Nipigon to the Great Lakes where Canada’s right to the diverted water was codified in 1950 Niagara River Treaty (5/5)
