I have lots of thoughts on this. Many others have given it more thought. I do wonder what the culture of leadership, especially among church planters in certain Christian corners, has contributed to this.

I didn’t expect to see this kind of response to this stat but it seems to ring true. Interesting to see how different pastors and spouses of pastors respond to this reality.
So many different stories, different wounds, different perspectives.

Just read a study with a staggering statistic: 70% of pastors do not have someone they consider to be a close friend. I cannot imagine the sense of loneliness that must feel like.

@ronniejmartin I've since realized that humor (granted, dad humor...and some wouldn't even say it's funny) is just a part of who I am. I don't write it in, it usually comes in the moment, and I do think it's contributed to it not being a performance...but everyone is different

What Jared said. And what comes with that human-ness is a posture that doesn’t take yourself so seriously, which can naturally lead to humorous impressions of things.
Also, a little humor can help guard against not making yourself the hero of your personal illustrations, too.

Good humor is fine, appropriately used. But really what every sermon needs is a *human-ness,* a pastoral quality, a brokenness, a warmth, the word coming through a person who is *real.* We need fewer performers and fewer commentary-bots in our pulpits
