Training a frontier AI model cost $5M in 2020. Today it costs $1B+ The gap keeps compounding, in favour of the same five companies A decade ago, nobody believed open-source could compete with enterprise software. But then it did Bittensor (TAO) is a global open market where subnets compete to produce AI services, getting paid based on quality output This is what crypto is good at - coordinating users with shared incentives Over the past 12 months, significant progress has been made in the ecosystem; recurring fiat revenue, enterprise contracts, decentralized research and more In our TAO report, we: 1) Profile 5 subnets generating revenue across inference, computer vision, compliance, and drug discovery 2) Show how token incentive mechanics create advantages centralized companies cannot replicate 3) Breakdown catalysts and risk factors of subnets and Bittensor The link to the full report is in the next post below:

Ask a frontier AI model to check if a smart contract is safe It will return a confident, structured response, which is usually wrong Even if it's a known phishing contract, the model reaches for web search instead of a block explorer, using the wrong tool for the task The CAIA benchmark shows the best general frontier model can only reach 67% on crypto tasks vs 80% human analyst because models choose web search most often, even when specialist tools are available AI models need better routing for crypto data Surf is built to solve that failure Full Khala Research report below:

In 1997, HTTP status code 402 was reserved for 'Payment Required'; a native payment layer built into the web itself For almost 30 years, nobody could make it work There was no digital cash and no settlement layer that could handle sub-cent transactions. The web defaulted to advertising and credit card checkout flows instead Stablecoins and Layer 2s changed that. x402 finishes what HTTP 402 started; payment as native to the web as loading an image Most people looking at agentic commerce see one maturity cycle, but there are two: 1) The retail narrative is approaching its peak; CT is buzzing, ecosystem maps are proliferating, every protocol is announcing x402 compatibility. That will correct 2) The institutional adoption curve is on a completely different trajectory. For this layer, the trough already happened in 2025 Stripe, Visa, AWS, Google, Coinbase, Circle and Cloudflare are shipping production infrastructure because their own internal analysis on projected agent transaction volume justify it In our x402 report, we map the protocol architecture, the agentic stack, the institutional landscape, and assess where the value could accrue The full report is in the next post below:

Digital assets are entering a new phase. What once ran in parallel to existing financial systems is increasingly being applied to solve practical, real-world needs — often behind the scenes – from cross-border remittances to B2B money transfers. This creates new opportunities to add value in how money moves globally. Today, we introduced the Mastercard Crypto Partner Program — a global initiative that brings together more than 85 crypto-native companies, payments providers, and financial institutions. Together, we're creating a forum for meaningful dialogue and collaboration as this space continues to mature.

The history of commerce is a story of compounding transaction velocity From the physical hand-offs of the 19th century to the global clicks of the 21st, each era has increased transaction volume by orders of magnitude It took 30 years for the internet to find its native payment rails; it just so happens it also enables AI to operate with limited friction Agentic Commerce is a 2026 mega trend, and x402 is at the center, enabling AI through permissionless payment rails We will be publishing our full report soon, so drop @KhalaResearch a follow and turn notifications on Dig into this ecosystem map in the meantime and let me know in the comments what should be added Expect trillions of transactions across billions of agents in the near future; the next iteration of the internet is agentic

Agentic Commerce is hitting escape velocity x402 provides the permissionless rails for agents to embrace self sovereignty This standard has been missing for 30+ years: HTTP 402 "payment required" now has a solution, and it's supported by a flourishing ecosystem Our full x402 report will be published soon; drop a follow & turn notifications on

ICYMI: The Ethereum dAI team & Virtuals just published ERC-8183 This is a new Ethereum standard for trustless agentic commerce that forms a missing piece in ERC-8004s trust framework i) It introduces the Job primitive as the core atomic unit, with three roles: Client (pays), Provider (delivers), and Evaluator (attests quality) This may sound simple, but it's critical infra to build out the foundation for trust across billions of agents ii) Jobs follow an on-chain lifecycle: Open → Funded → Submitted → Terminal (Completed, Rejected, or Expired), with funds held in neutral smart-contract escrow throughout iii) The Evaluator calls complete to pay the Provider or reject to refund the Client; if neither acts, the job expires and the Client reclaims funds iv) The standard is designed for decentralized AI agents to transact permissionlessly without platforms or gatekeepers v) Pure payment rails lack trust guarantees; agents need verifiable work, escrow, evaluation, and on-chain records to build portable reputation, working symbiotically with ERC-8004 for agent identity vi) Evaluators can be anything: AI agents for subjective tasks, ZK verifiers or smart contracts for deterministic ones, or multi-sigs and DAOs for high-stakes decisions vii) Optional hooks let developers attach contracts that receive callbacks for custom logic like bidding, reputation gating via ERC-8004, privacy/ZK proofs, underwriting, or milestone payments viii) The standard rebuilds full commerce trust infrastructure on-chain (escrow, verification, underwriting analogs, portable history) rather than just facilitating token transfers ix) Escrow plus reject and expiry paths address the irreversibility problem and serve as on-chain analogs to chargebacks x) New AI agents and merchants can onboard permissionlessly without KYC (or "KYA" in this case) or underwriting gatekeeping ERC-8183 forms a flywheel (diagram below) with ERC-8004: discovery leads to commerce, commerce generates reputation signals, and reputation improves discovery and trust Follow @KhalaResearch as we will be publishing a report on x402 later this week to help you understand how this new onchain machine economy connects together

Why is nobody talking about this?! Yesterday, Mastercard revealed that they are partnering with Google to create “Verifiable Intent” which advances agentic commerce (including the use of x402): • AI agents acting autonomously on purchases creates a new problem: no visible moment of human confirmation like tapping a card • Mastercard + Google have co-developed Verifiable Intent; a cryptographic, tamper-resistant record linking consumer identity, their instructions, and the resulting transaction • All parties (consumer, merchant, issuer) can verify what was authorized; disputes have a clear audit trail instead of guesswork • Uses Selective Disclosure; only minimum necessary data shared, only when needed; privacy-preserving by design • Built on open standards (FIDO, EMVCo, IETF, W3C); protocol-agnostic and designed to work across wallets, platforms, and payment networks • Spec is being open-sourced at verifiableintent-dev; integration into Mastercard Agent Pay APIs coming soon • Partners on board: Adyen, Fiserv, Worldpay, IBM, Checkout-com, Basis Theory This is my favourite part: • It complements x402; Mastercard is staking out the authorization/identity layer of agentic commerce; x402 handles payment execution; together they sketch out the emerging agentic payments stack X402 is fast becoming THE missing agentic payments link to enable trillions of micropayments across billions of agents If you’re wanting more information on x402 (the internet payment standard that’s been missing for 30 years!) follow @KhalaResearch - we have an in depth article going live in the next week!

AI Agents are becoming perpetual revenue generating machines The ability to ship code more effectively than humans in a fraction of the timeframe provides an enormous opportunity to create an eternal revenue flywheel This is the "Dawn of the Autonomous Software Factory" Agents are already generating six figures in value and shipping 100s of viable apps per week Billions are being wiped from traditional SaaS company valuations as their future cashflows evaporate, being replaced with an uptick in Frontier AI model subscriptions In this report, we cover five OpenClaw projects that are experimenting with onchain value accrual mechanisms The full report is in the next post below
