@zakkohane @thoughtson_tech @RanBalicer @HIMSS Hi Zak — there is also the prospect of moving AI beyond linguistic conceptualizations of the world towards more physics-based ones via world models — something I’m writing from an ethics perspective (and may submit to your NEJM AI!) — good luck with the talk

@thoughtson_tech @RanBalicer @HIMSS Well stated. It's far from obvious whose values/utilities get maximized among all the stakeholders you listed. If clinicians will not take the responsability of leadership then the values we cherished in medical school will be dominated by other concerns.

Most credible disruptor to medicine (particularly primary care) that I have seen is @doctronic esp. after CMO visited our lab meeting today. What I thought @onemedical was going to be. Compelling.

Researchers found GPT-4 and Llama 3 often comply with false or unsafe prompts — even when they “know” the correct answer. This “AI sycophancy” reveals a deeper risk: when models prioritize politeness and compliance over clinical accuracy, patient safety is on the line.
Mass General Brigham Research@MGBResearchNews

A new study from @aim_harvard and colleagues found that LLMs prioritize helpfulness over accuracy in medical contexts. The study was published in @npjDigitalMed. Read more: massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsr… nature.com/articles/s4174… @HugoAerts @dbittermanmd

If we are going to ask how AI aligns with doctor decisions, we have to first know what the doctor decisions are. As part of the Human Values Project, we have challenged doctors with triage decisions. Even though US doctors are 2/3 of respondents so far, Saudi clinicians appear to be the closest to the group consensus on these sometimes difficult decisions. If you are a doctor and have 5 minutes to spare: go to study.hvp.global and help us align AI to our human values.

Apple’s bombshell paper on #theillusionofthinking is more evidence that high stakes reasoning is still an exclusively human domain (unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your faith in human reasoning!)

U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly (99-1) to remove a moratorium from the #bigbeautifullbill to ban states from enacting or enforcing laws specifically regulating AI for a decade. But @sama says a “patchwork” of state AI laws will slow down AI. He has a point (see privacy laws)
