Eskom Chair @mteton and CEO Dan Marakoane's plan is not the unbundling South Africa was promised. It is a partial restructuring that preserves the core structural bottleneck—and risks turning creditor complexity into an all-purpose excuse for reform drift. It is entirely possible to create an independent transmission company with its own assets, and manage creditor concerns with clear leadership and purpose, as has been demonstrated internationally. We're at a critical juncture. Let's make the decision in South Africa Inc's interest not the short term convenience of @Eskom_SA managers 12/.

In a @BDliveSA oped published today, @Eskom_SA Chief Executive, Dan Marokane, has sought to rebut criticisms of his revised Eskom unbundling strategy that seeks to hold onto transmission assets. Let’s examine his arguments 1/

@ForGoodZA So instead of saying NO, you abstain, and allow the post to be created anyway??? Make it make sense!

GOOD National Chairperson & Councillor Matthew Cook warns against creating an Executive Deputy Mayor post at R1.28m/year, without clear outcomes, just months before elections.

@VimleshRajbansi Nice try. Sovereign guarantees are necessary to obtain those loans. Our balance sheet can't afford it. Also, how much have we spent on Koeberg's life extension? Do you know? Does anyone? Because they keep saying "its on budget" - based on a R20bn figure in 2010.
English

@kmileham Koeberg is a great example of how nuclear can be done properly. It was built in the 1970s by the French — funded with loans & repaid over time through electricity tariffs. They built the whole plant & handed it over ready to run.

#NuclearRegrets
2023: Kevin Mileham, the DA’s Shadow Minister of Mineral Resources & Energy said he did not support the 9600MW nuclear build in 2017, and he doesn’t now.
2025: Minister of Electricity concedes they made mistakes about nuclear that led to load-shedding

English

@VimleshRajbansi * goat's
We need to invest in transmission. Not vanity projects.
English

@VimleshRajbansi You still hav to put up sovereign guarantees (and no, the goat's proposed Credit Guarantee Vehicles are little more than offtake agreements), which means is IS going on the country's balance sheet. In our financial/economic situation, nuclear should NOT be a priority right now.
English

@VimleshRajbansi The question is whether we can AFFORD the infrastructure. Especially seeing as it willmonly cone online 10 to 15 years down the line....
English

@kmileham Any big infrastructure cost eventually gets passed on to users anyway. The real issue isn’t nuclear itself — it’s making sure the ANC doesn’t get anywhere near the nuclear budget. There must be solid, transparent systems in place to monitor the project —to prevent corruption
English

@VimleshRajbansi Oh Vimlesh, how I've missed you! Have you asked whi is going to pay for the (~R1 trillion) nuclear new build? Because I have....
Hint: It's the ordinary South African - either through increased taxes or through higher electricity prices.

@Airports_ZA How is it possible to only have one security checkpoint open at King Shaka?
English

@MotlalepulaMa11 @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba Does this help you?
iol.co.za/news/politics/…
English

The truth is @HermanMashaba was forced out of the DA because Helen Zille couldn’t handle the fact that he was becoming more popular than her.
That’s why they wanted to remove him as mayor.

English

@MotlalepulaMa11 @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba Look at your claims: first you said the first DA Federal Congress was held in 2007. I've disproved that.
Then you said "April 2002 isn't a date", so I got specific.
Now you are calling me a liar for providing the facts. Were you there?
English

@kmileham @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba Liar 2002 they were appointed the same way ACTIONSA leadership is appointed.
English

@MotlalepulaMa11 @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba I've attended as a voting delegate to every Federal Congress since 2004, and can personally confirm that these elections took place where positions were contested. Not every position was contested at every Congress.
English

@MotlalepulaMa11 @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba The Federal Congress of DA ended on 13 April 2002. Tony Leon elected as Federal Leader, Joe Seremane as Federal Chair and James Selfe as Chair of Fed Council. Elective congresses held on

@MotlalepulaMa11 @DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba Wrong. First elective Congress was in April 2002. The DA was formed in June 2000. Prior to that, the parties that joined up to become the DA had all had regular elective Congresses.
English

@DugmoreN71068 @Nathanxog @HermanMashaba DA was democrats yet Tony Leon was an appointed leader. They held their first Conference in 2007
