The apps use sound as discipline. Reject an order, forget marking one as delivered? A harsh alarm bell screams from your phone—designed to create crisis. On Swiggy, a message: "rejecting orders is bad behaviour." The algorithm watches and screams. Listen to this (Blinkit):

A key lesson that the Indian defence establishment should keep in mind is that it takes time to restart a production line. When overall numbers are low, you should keep churning out weapon platforms from your factories, instead of allowing the assembly lines to rust while orders are awaited. This has been true so many times in the past. It may well happen again with the submarine and frigate assembly lines. Yes, funds will have to be raised, but given the state of the world, surely India can afford to raise defence capital acquisition budgets by 15-20% over the next few years?

10 years have flown by just like that. From barely 5,000 followers, the FB page jumped to 75,000 by December 2nd. That was the moment I truly felt weather blogging could make a difference to the public. Reposting what I wrote at 11:30 pm on December 1st, 2015 that night changed everything. My inbox was flooded with messages “pls save me”, “help me”, “send me boat sir”. I had only a few hours of charge left in my laptop. For the first time in my life as a hardcore pluviophile, I wished for the rains to stop. And when I posted my final update at 3:30 am on December 2nd, saying the rains would end, I had never been so happy to see rainfall come to a halt. 10 years of journey with you all, was able to remember all those old followers by name itself, Good old days. Age is catching up these days. Hopefully and health permitting more blogging years to come. Thank you once again for all the love and trust !!!!

When I was a kid I used to travel a lot from Mumbai to Chennai, and because of our economic status and timings at that time, a lot of it was on the sleeper class of the Madras Mail. Now when I say a lot of time, it actually was a lot of time. Because the Madras Mail took two nights and about 50 stops to cover the 1300 kms between the two cities. Considering the fact that the Southern Railways usually doesn't get the good coaches and the mail category of trains in Southern Railway used to get the coaches rejected by the other more glamourous trains, the coaches of the Madras Mail in terms of quality, used to tend towards the category of absolute worst. And when you account for the fact sleeper coaches are usually at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to quality, it was worse than the usually what Indians would call worst. I remember the coaches at that time used to have this a sad red / brown / maroon. Whatever colour it was, it used to instantly vaporize all the happiness that you had within you. The paint used to be peeling off, the window bars and shutters were usually rusted and the so called "cushion" gave you more pain than actual cushioning. Then you had your non-working taps, an overflowing dustbin and the washrooms would be so amazing, that they made today's Indian Railway washrooms look like those of the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Safe to say that when you arrived at the station and looked at the train, you would instantly go into depression and immediately start questioning the extent the sins of your past life, which has brought you to a situation where you need to spend two nights in the Madras Mail. And then for me it got worse. Because the Indian railways had a special grouse against our family. They always used to give us Berth no 71,72 and 73. For all the rich people out there, in case you don’t know, these were the seats that were right next to the washrooms. If the Indian Railway washroom was the Ground Zero of the Atomic Gas bomb of an Indian stomach, Berth no 71, 72 and 73 were the points of maximum impact of its blast zone. And we had to spend 30 hours in that zone So, as a kid when I used to board the train and occupy those seats, let’s just say I was not happy. And given that I was very expressive, my anger and sadness was more visible than the But when my mom and dad saw me sad and sulking, in an attempt to cheer me up, they used to have this standard quote. They used to say, "Don't worry, as soon as the train starts moving, it will be all right". And you know what, it used to actually become fine. As soon as the train moved, we started looking out of the window and were calmed by the fresh breeze. We caught a little sleep, got some things to eat, conversed with our co-passengers, read Tinkle and Chandamama and before you knew it, you started enjoying the journey. Life suddenly, was not that bad after all. Today when I look back, some of my happiest childhood memories were from those train journeys and surprisingly, I have zero recollection of the coaches and washrooms. Which brings me to the realization that the "Don't worry, it will be all right when the train starts moving" thing my parents used to say, actually works for life as well. Some days in life, I am in a position where everything appears bad, lost and sad. Everything looks bleak with no hope of redemption. I start questioning myself, God and everyone else around me and I feel that I am at my lowest point, I remember the advice my mom and dad gave me from seat no 72 of the Madras Mail. Just keep your train moving. Because when the train moves, things actually become all right.
