The massively failed, federally mandated approach to homelessness was supposed to end homelessness within a decade, as promised by @POTUS44 @HUDgov @USICH. Instead, homelessness and public disorder have skyrocketed. The failing policy forces taxpayers to fund "in perpetuity" housing vouchers with ZERO requirements for sobriety, treatment, or work. This is both unsustainable and morally wrong. We cannot build or afford housing for everyone who enters homelessness. Nor should we. This system traps people in perpetual dependency rather than offering them a path to independence. Yes, a small percentage may require lifelong support, but the majority— when given the right tools— can rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Without an exit ramp to self-reliance, we fail the homeless and burden taxpayers indefinitely.
