High school me thought practical FX were best for our Back To The Future parody (there was no digital option then). Gasoline and matches to create the car’s fire trails. Filmed in the parking lot where the Walmart stands today. No police. No safety measures. What is the statute of limitations on stupidity?

@CoryOnBrand Getting everything built used to be fairly easy, now it's death by 1000 clicks, and if you do things in the wrong order or make a misstep, even jump from Ad lvl to AdSet and back, you have to double check each Ad to make sure it didn't recheck a box just because. Maddening.

@CoryOnBrand To put it another way... whatever used to take 1 click on Meta now takes 5-10, and almost all of it is to make sure the system doesn't auto add, change, revert, turn on, turn off, etc. things that will hurt you, confuse customers, aren't aligned with goals, etc.

Meta in 2020: detailed targeting options for every niche you could think of. Meta in 2021: removed thousands of interest categories overnight without warning. Meta in 2022: Advantage+ launches and starts automating away the levers you used to improve performance. Meta in 2023: account bans ramping up. AI moderation replacing human support staff. Brands losing access to their own ad accounts for weeks with nobody to call. Meta in 2024: health and wellness brands getting restricted from running certain campaign types. More categories flagged, more ads rejected, more accounts frozen. Meta in 2025: Zuckerberg announces the algorithm will do everything for you. No targeting and no creative control. Just put your budget in and trust the machine. Every year brings fewer tools and more dependence on a platform whose algorithm answers to shareholders before it answers to you. The brands who will win have been paying attention to this, and stopped waiting around. They’ve already started to find the new lanes nobody is competing in… And diversified before it was too late.
