@pepsimaxl0ver @McDonaldsRamon @urlilisa And even when it did get as hot, the heat usually didn't last several weeks in a row, but a few hot days here and there, interrupted by cooler days and rain. But that's been slowly changing.

@bialygarnuch @McDonaldsRamon @urlilisa Germans don't like permanently installing things that they rarely use, it's the same reason why ceiling fans aren't common here. That, and the fact that many Germans are renters, so they often aren't even allowed to install one themselves.

@McDonaldsRamon @urlilisa whats stopping germans from installing it? Installation costs around 1k eur in poland, so I doubt cost is an issue?

@lemonfoxi @urlilisa People from the areas that don't have AC talk about it, that's why. The mediterranean regions have had AC for ages, they're not the ones complaining about not having AC.

@egalbraith_ @Yxng_Stevie @JBickertonUK Good luck retrofitting that into a brick house that doesn't have hollow walls and ceilings. That's the reason why most homes in Germany don't have central AC, either

@TylerSeabury @ChristinaTasty Not every country has American-style sliding windows. You can't fit a window unit to a tilt-and-turn window, which is what you'll find in most of central Europe.

@ChristinaTasty Don't be ridiculous. You can get two powerful window units at Costco for $400 which can easily cool 2000sqft.

@CSlo87 @Vidan2817 @ChristinaTasty Not when you live in a country where tilt-and-turn windows are the norm, there's no window units for those. Only thing you can do with those is put in a fabric seal with velcro and stick the AC's exhaust pipe through there. Which isn't great.

@BenTh3B3ar @616IMPULSE @lesbian_syrax Wait till you learn about when summer break starts in some parts of Germany. The summer holidays in Bavaria start in early August and end mid-September. Which was historically done so that kids would be home during the late summer and early autumn to help on the fields.

@SysC0mp @fryingpn I mean, when someone born and raised in Germany has never heard anyone say or use a word, not even Germans from other regions with different dialects, it's safe to assume that it's not a common German word. I have literally never heard or seen anyone use "Drachenfutter"

@OKMS8989 @DapperSteve Why is it laziness? If you live somewhere where a car isn't needed, not owning one isn't lazy, it's a smart financial decision. I have a drivers license, but I currently don't own a car because I don't need one where I live. So I'm not paying any vehicle tax, upkeep or gas.

Sometimes I feel like I am going mad but does anybody else get me here? I don't drive and I don't have any ambitions to learn. I can get anywhere I need without that. I simply don't believe in a culture where every single person needs a car - it's so wrong for our planet.

@ToujoursADroite @reaverxai @isa2001m Unpopular opinion, but I found it to be so much more pleasant and relaxed to drive 100 km/h on the dutch highways. In Germany, you have to constantly pay attention if someone slow pulls out in front of you while driving in the fast lane. Much more stressful.

@smo841603557184 @korbazinho @Cernovich Nope. Germany's still building new Autobahn routes. Culturally, Germany is one of the most car-centric places in Europe. We have several big car manufacturers after all, so the car lobby is strong lol

This driver was incorrect. If the cars in both the lanes merge at one point, it's going to be chaotic and the traffic build up will anyways happen. So merging much earlier is actually better. Besides, If one of the car in the right lane has an emergency, they can easily get out. If both the lanes are full, the cars in the right lane win find it difficult to move out.

This guy is using the left hand lane , which is open. There is a mile long backup and everyone is over in the right hand lane. He drives all the way up until he has to merge. Some people are saying what a jerk he is for not getting in line like everyone else, but a great many people are saying that the cars in the right lane merged into one lane too soon and that if they had used the left lane, instead of being a mile backup it would have been a half a mile backup. What’s your take? Do you think he was correct in using the left lane and merging up at the front or should he have merged right and got in line way in the back like everyone else?

@Wernochgleich @Porkchop_EXP That's not a sign of a problem, though. Germany just has a high percentage of renters, it has been that way ever since the war ended and cities were re-built. Renting is a secure and permanent way of living. There's still a housing shortage, but it has nothing to do with renting.
