Everyone thinks this is an exaggeration but there are so many software engineers, not just at FAANG, who I know personally who literally make ~2 code changes a month, few emails, few meetings, remote work, < 5 hours/ week, for ~$200-300k. Here are some of those companies:

@semil @matt_levine I believe this to be true in all "apprenticeship" style businesses - legal, VC, consulting, IB. Currently thinking about if there will be new compensation models or different tasks junior folks can do to learn.

@saranormous This is how I feel about "Plaid for X lagging industry" data layer companies. A lot of money to be made if you can figure out a revenue model that is NOT "per API call, per device, per seat, per vehicle"

There are a number of big businesses where most folks don’t understand the model for making much of the money, eg ads on Instacart, or FX on Deel. Being creative about where the value capture is (vs just translation take rate, per-seat pricing) can be game changing

@chamath MJ did make $1b+ on two different deals, Air Jordan and the Hornets. LeBron is already a billionaire. I think you aren't giving enough credit to the NBPA's efforts to date.

And while W2 comp for players is great, they still pay 40-50% tax on it. The big win for NBA players would be the creation of a phantom equity plan that allows the players to earn long term capital gains, during their playing time, on the increase in equity value of the franchises. Said differently, MJ literally 10x’ed the entire value of the NBA but made less than $100M in total salary. You can make a very strong case that he deserved $1-5B wrt the increase in team values that he helped usher in. You need a super sophisticated union to make this argument but I think the players deserve it.

There are now more players in the NBA making $30M+ per year than there are CEOs of S&P500 companies who make that much… ✊🏽
