This is absolutely shameful. Agents of a federal agency unnecessarily escalating, and then executing a defenseless citizen whose offense appears to be using his cell phone camera. Every person regardless of political affiliation should be denouncing this.

The murder in Minneapolis by the government’s secret police this week has stirred something in me. A mother was gunned down in the street by ICE, and the government doesn’t even have the decency to perform a scripted condolence. No matter which way the tires were pointing, this is a tragedy for her family, her children, and yet JD Vance, Palmer Lucky, and others instantly became the judge and the jury on twitter proclaiming the 37 year old white mother was a domestic terrorist and was trying to murder a federal officer; thus she *deserves* to be shot in the face. And you do too if you don’t comply. Where is the humanity? How is everyone not terrified that this could happen to them, their mother, their sister? Isn’t it terrifying that the Vice President is immediately defending murder of american citizens? I normally keep my politics quiet here because of how toxic twitter is and how annoying it can be to people who want a clean tech feed. Right now it just feels wrong not to say anything. I haven’t quite been able to figure out the right words for how I feel. My first instinct is “fuck ICE” and “what the fuck is wrong with these people”. Those are my lizard brain reactions. But there’s something deeper that’s bothering me. I can’t shake this feeling that the moral foundation that much of modern society stands upon is infected, and is festering. We teach kids that right and wrong exist, not to lie, that you don’t hurt people, and that you protect the vulnerable. And yet our highest elected officials encourage the burning and pillaging of these sacred lessons. I could go on about how our current leadership just wants money and power, and they’re using immigrants as scapegoats to do so. Our economy is transforming rapidly, both with AI and because of greedy capitalist policies — the country is angry about legitimate things and democrats are not actually listening. Republicans are listening but are redirecting anger for their own power. The next 5 years are going to look a lot different because of technology; yet our heads are buried in the sand and we’re losing our way. But maybe the only real thing we can do is to keep living and teaching the lessons of right and wrong, not to lie, that you don’t hurt people, and that you protect the vulnerable. Teach your kids these lessons in spite of Trump, Vance, Noem being lost beyond repair. Teach your kids that everyone deserves to be treated as a human being and not an object to be deported to a brutal prison cell. I do believe that most people are still good, and that the best thing we can do to combat dehumanization by the government is more humanization of our neighbors. Go spend time with your republican cousins / neighbors and break bread with them. Don’t talk politics, play with their kids. Find common humanity. But I don’t really have a call to action beyond this. I don’t really know what to do other than vote in November and refuse to pretend this is normal, publicly, even if it’s terrifying that you might get targeted and attacked. People in Nazi Germany stayed silent for this very fear, and we’re certainly living through a cosplay of that now. The president called a 37 year old mother a domestic terrorist and that her 3 shots to the face by the gestapo was a tragedy of her own making. The actual tragedy is that the Oval office propped up millions of people arguing about the direction of the tires of the car without having the humility to step back and ask if we want the government murdering civilians in broad daylight. I am terribly sad for this country, our broken moral compass, and for hard working immigrants living in fear here. But I do believe we will eventually heal.

🚨BREAKING: WARNING — DISTURBING FOOTAGE Yesterday in Minneapolis, ICE agents brutally beat and illegally arrested a legal U.S. resident… all caught on camera. In the video, five ICE agents are seen on top of a man who is face down on the concrete. One agent repeatedly knees him in the face while the man does not resist. He is motionless, in pain, and screaming in agony. The assault only stops when the agent realizes a legal observer is filming. This is not an allegation. It is recorded violence. And it gets worse. The man, identified as Juan Carlos, is currently unhoused and living out of his car. ICE agents unlawfully approached him, ripped him from his vehicle, violently beat him, arrested him, and transported him to the Whipple Detention Facility. Juan Carlos posed no threat. He is a legal U.S. resident. Yet, he was assaulted and treated like a criminal. While in custody, he began having difficulty breathing. Only then did agents transport him to a hospital, still in shackles. He had blood in his ears from the beating, yet, was denied medical care until he was in medical distress. Once at the hospital, ICE agents attempted to intimidate medical staff and interfere with care. After approximately two hours, they finally issued Juan Carlos a ticket and left. To be absolutely clear: -ICE agents beat a legal U.S. resident. -They illegally arrested him. -They attempted to hold him in a detention facility. -They withheld medical care until his condition worsened. -They only backed down once there were witnesses, video evidence, and hospital staff present. If Juan Carlos had not been taken to the hospital… a place with mandated witnesses and documentation… it is very possible a legal U.S. resident would still be sitting in an immigration detention center today. And this is the part they don’t want you to realize: Immigration detention is a profit-driven system. Private prison corporations make money by keeping beds full. Every illegal arrest, every unlawful hold, every person thrown into a detention center without cause is revenue for a private company. When law enforcement agencies can illegally beat and attempt to warehouse legal residents for profit, this stops being about immigration enforcement and becomes a business model built on human suffering, and human trafficking. This is not a misunderstanding. This is not “questioning.” This is state violence, enabled by a system that profits from illegal confinement. And it will continue until it is forced to stop.

This is not okay. Regardless of her citizenship (and witnesses indicated she is a U.S. citizen), this kind of thuggish behavior by ICE agents is completely over the top. Choking her & gouging her eyes is excessive force. The government is supposed to be in service of all of us.

This is completely not okay, and we can't become numb to repeated instances of illegal and unconstitutional action by government agencies. The recent days have been horrific.

🚨BREAKING: Border Patrol just illegally arrested a U.S. citizen… a TEENAGER… in Richfield, Minnesota. The teen was working at Target when agents tackled him and arrested him, while his passport was in his pocket, fully identifying himself as a U.S. citizen. None of it mattered. Why? Because he looked Latino. When a coworker asked who to call, he said, heartbreakingly: “my mom.” Think about that. Your teenage son goes to work, and Border Patrol kidnaps him. This isn’t an isolated incident. ICE and Border Patrol have repeatedly illegally arrested U.S. citizens, especially in Minnesota. And after agents murdered a U.S. citizen who tried to drive away from illegal detention, this should outrage every single American. U.S. citizens do not have to prove their citizenship. Yet, ICE and Border Patrol agents are routinely violating the Constitution, demanding proof anyway… and even refusing to accept drivers licenses or real IDs. And now? Even a passport doesn’t matter. This isn’t enforcement… it’s targeting Americans based on fear and appearance, treating citizens like criminals in their own country. When will this end? When will the government stop stripping citizens of their rights and labeling them terrorists for simply existing?

This is unusual: ~30 minutes before President Trump's tariff announcement yesterday, a "whale" took a multi-million dollar SHORT in Bitcoin. 1 hour later, crypto saw its largest ever liquidation and this position was liquidated for +$192 MILLION in profit. Did someone know?

You cannot force highly skilled people to work a set number of hours. They will just pretend to which is easy to do. They’ll read Reddit, make easy tasks stretch in time, have a longer lunch, longer meetings, etc. The only way I’ve seen or experienced seeing people work a lot of raw hours is because they believe what they are doing has mission, it challenges, users are scrambling for it, or it moves their soul somehow.

By the way, I don't know if people realize this, but the 2020 work-from-home switch coincided with a major productivity boom, and the late 2021 and 2022 back-to-office reversal coincided with a noticeable productivity drop. It's right there in the statistics. Narrative violation? Productivity growth is now back to pre-2020 levels.

LLM adoption among US workers is closing in on 50%. Meanwhile labor productivity growth is lower than in 2020. Many counter-arguments can be made here, e.g. "they don't know yet how to be productive with it, they've only been using for 1-2 years", "50% is still too low to see impact", "models next year will be unbelievably better", etc. But I think we now have enough evidence to say that the 2023 talking point that "LLMs will make workers 10x more productive" (some folks even quoted 100x) is probably not accurate.
Oyvind Bjerke@BjerkeOy

LLM adoption rose to 45.9% among US workers as of June/July 2025, according to a Stanford/World Bank survey. Inference demand will continue to surge, not just from more users and more usage per user, but as newer, more advanced GenAI models require far more inference compute. 🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: DeepMind leader calls OpenAI’s IMO gold claim bullshit: “IMO has an internal marking guide no one outside sees. Without that, you can’t claim a medal. With the point you lose on P6, you’re Silver, not Gold.” Reminder: > OpenAI didn’t even collaborate with IMO. > vague-posts results with no full transparency > DeepMind collaborated with IMO to verify results > IMO explicitly requested AI labs to wait a week after the closing ceremony > to avoid stealing spotlight from brilliant students (humans) > OpenAI chose to announce their results BEFORE the ceremony even ended > Research community: “OpenAI has been disrespectful” LMFAOOO

🚨 According to a friend, the IMO asked AI companies not to steal the spotlight from kids and to wait a week after the closing ceremony to announce results. OpenAI announced the results BEFORE the closing ceremony. According to a Coordinator on Problem 6, the one problem OpenAI couldn't solve, "the general sense of the IMO Jury and Coordinators is that it was rude and inappropriate" for OpenAI to do this. OpenAI wasn't one of the AI companies that cooperated with the IMO on testing their models, so unlike the likely upcoming Google DeepMind results, we can't even be sure OpenAI's "gold medal" is legit. Still, the IMO organizers directly asked OpenAI not to announce their results immediately after the olympiad. Sadly, OpenAI desires hype and clout a lot more than it cares about letting these incredibly smart kids celebrate their achievement, and so they announced the results yesterday.
