@paulmitche11 @MattMahanSJ I think that this poll should be enough to end the Top 2 system. The entire purpose was that voters would cross-over to nominate a moderate (mostly R to D). But politicians of the losing party (statewide R, but locally both) take advantage of the opening to "win" a primary.

For those who keep thinking "crossover" voters exists in CA Primary elections... here you go. In the latest polling just 1% of Reps say they will vote for the most mod Dem in the race, @MattMahanSJ. Funny enough, 3% say they will vote for the one saying he is the most progressive in the race, @TomSteyer So, when someone says that a Dem can win by appealing to crossover voters, show them this. And the same goes for anyone thinking a Rep can win by getting crossover votes. (I would like to see Insurance Commissioner... that may be more prone to crossover votes this year)

@MetJetsIes @RJB1733 @FrankLuntz Protection against abuses by the majority are not achieved by allowing the minority to govern; that’s the opposite of the purpose. And the EC was established mostly because it was closer to the people than the alternative of election by Congress.

@MetJetsIes @RJB1733 @FrankLuntz Impressive. You’ve rattled off the two dumbest arguments for the Electoral College along with a false history of why it exists. Small states have no special claim to the presidency, nor does the EC ensure that (Gore wins in 2000 is the House were as large as the Framers planned.

All right @BenSasse, let's make a bet. Let's divide the US in half. I'll let you pick which half. In your half, you ban Candy Crush. In my half we institute 16 weeks of paid parental leave, universal childcare, & a restored child tax credit. Let's see which has more babies.
60 Minutes@60Minutes

“We've stopped making babies. We've decided that being distracted by a dopamine hit around Candy Crush might be a good way to spend your time. Not if you're a full human," former Sen. Ben Sasse says in an extended interview. cbsn.ws/4cA1Jrp

There really is only one way to improve representation for all Americans in Congress: UNCAP THE HOUSE! It’s what the founders intended; they did NOT want to see Congressional Districts that were bigger than most major cities. Want to dilute the influence of courts and partisans, UNCAP THE HOUSE!

If Derek Jeter played his entire career for each franchise, would he be that franchise's greatest player?

@notgaetti @baseball_ref @CodifyBaseball @theaceofspaeder @TheWARmonger_ @JessicaDBrand @BigLeagueDigest @EmSheDoesIt @JLas43_ @OfficialMLBRFC @sondraa Derek Jeter would EASILY be the greatest player ever for 29/30 franchises. No question about it. He’s the greatest shortstop to ever play the game, but at best he’s the 3rd greatest Yankee ever (and probably its fairer to say he’s 5th or 6th among Yankees legends)

@mike_petriello @notgaetti There are teams that have greater franchise players than Jeter right now. (Angels, Dodgers, Yankees, maybe others.)

@notgaetti this is not anti-Jeter content at all, but we're not really putting him above Mays, Ted, Bonds, and Babe, are we? (the 29/30 "easily" thing.)

@CJNitkowski But any team CAN do it; and other teams have worked on doing it. Teams SHOULD be doing it--they should be developing pitching alternatives. It's actually weirder that you don't think there should be the rule because he is special. If he's special, he's special.

Good to see this gaining some traction this week with Craig Counsell the latest to question the rule. The DH part makes total sense, the ability to roster an extra pitcher just because you have a starting pitcher who also hits is illogical. Spare me the “any team can do it” argument. He’s special, we acknowledge that, but to have a roster advantage doesn’t equate.
CJ@CJNitkowski

Time to revisit the "Ohtani Rule." Why do the Dodgers get to carry an extra pitcher when Ohtani is making regular starts in the rotation?

@johnkonrad Your complaint is that you left California and stopped paying California taxes and now California won’t subsidize your kids’ college? Turns out leaving California was *not* good choice for their education. Spread the word.

My wife has a master’s in education and won teacher of the year for her entire district two years ago. We left California right before my son started middle school. “He is not going to school in a trailer park.” That is what the school was. A bunch of modular homes. And we lived in a wealthy district. And it was not just the dilapidated buildings. The school policies were insane. Everyone tried to apply to magnet schools. We toured a bunch of those too and she was not a fan. Highly concentrated academics, very limited sports and extracurriculars. Both my kids got into their top college picks. That would not have happened if we had stayed. And here is the strange part. My daughter got into almost every school she applied to, including programs with acceptance rates as low as 5%. She was rejected from every UC she applied to. And not just her. Friends with perfect GPAs got the same result. Meanwhile her California friends, with lower scores, got into UCs. I have not investigated it, but I think the UC system is covering for major gaps. P.S. UC schools don’t want SAT scores. Gee, I wonder why.
Chamath Palihapitiya@chamath

Spending more while getting less is usually a good sign of corruption, fraud, waste and incompetence. Our education system in California is profoundly broken.

In addition to being catastrophically flawed, this poll is also a polling malpractice in the weights. Poll is only 28% seniors when they will be 40%+ of voters. Has too many Latinos, not enough Democrats, too many independents. This thing is a goddamn mess. All that said, I am not going to be surprised if a real pollster found @TomSteyer ahead right now. I may have seen two polls already that showed him ahead or just slightly ahead of Porter. But getting there with nonsense methodology shouldn’t be rewarded. @surveyusa sucks.
