Grimpound wolf wall on Dartmoor today. As we approached with the wolf biologists a pair of ravens rose to greet us. Were these wolf birds from the time of the ancients recalling the memory of their lost lupine kin ?

Terrible that the @NFUtweets is posting this like a celebration! What a pile of greenwashing. Whilst that stat might seem impressive, we’ve lost 52% of hedgerows in the last 50yrs and 60% of the ones we do have aren’t in good ecological condition. Let’s not pat ourselves on the back for this destruction. Let’s face the facts and support the farmers actively trying to change the stats!
National Farmers' Union@NFUtweets

British farmers maintain 411,600km of hedgerows. That's long enough to wrap around the equator 10 times!🦅🇬🇧 #BackBritishFarming

You would think this was a wild and improbable conspiracy theory. But every fact in this column is checked and verified. How the Atlas Network’s dark-money junktanks steer policy around the world. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Antibiotic resistance is likely the greatest health threat we face and without urgent action we will see millions dying every year from infections that are treatable today. One of the key reasons for that is the industrial scale use of antibiotics on intensive farms where this miracle drug – something our ancestors could only have dreamed of– is used simply to keep animals alive in miserable conditions they couldn’t otherwise survive. It is hard to think of a more reckless and irresponsible policy and while other countries have taken the step of banning the routine use of antibiotics on farms, we have not, despite promising to do so for years. Future generations will be outraged that in our failure to stand up to vested interests and lobby groups today we robbed them off the most important medical advance our species has ever known. If people really understood the implications, they would simply be enraged. The government must put the interests of its people first and legislate now. independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Less than 10 years ago, none of these trees were here. Now birds are using them to nest, and a host of other fauna + flora has moved in. If natural habitat is there, the wildlife will follow.

Today is the #Inglorious12th - the start of the red grouse shooting season. This outdated, unjust “sport” is underpinned by crime, and supports nothing but a scorched landscape which is void of balanced biodiversity. Pls RT if you’d like to see an end to this practice - for wildlife and people.

Good evening . Today has been a satanic day on the moors . . . the inglorious 12th . It may have just cost some mainly men thousands of pounds to kill birds for fun but it’s come at terrible cost to UK wildlife and the environment . @WildJustice_org @ReviveCoalition @LeagueACS @wildmoorsuk

The logical conclusion of the argument that we cannot possibly have native predators such as lynx or wolves back in Britain is that apex predators should not exist *anywhere*. If rich Britain, home to some of the biggest, most sparsely populated upland landscapes in Europe, cannot accommodate wolves, why should Italy, Belgium or the Netherlands? And why should India not do away with its tigers, Sri Lanka its leopards or Costa Rica its jaguars? There are no rational or moral arguments to support assertion that we cannot coexist with our own native wildlife in functional ecosystems. I’m willing to debate anyone on this, anywhere, anytime.

Moving to a gentler, wilder way of farming, preferably with native cattle rather than hordes of sheep, is the surest way of breathing life back into the nature and communities of our national park landscapes. countrylife.co.uk/nature/ben-gol…

There are few things more exciting than Ireland’s emerging rewilding movement, led by heroes such as Eoghan Daltun (⁦@IrishRainforest⁩). If you haven’t yet read Eoghan’s book An Irish Atlantic Rainforest, you’ve got a treat in store. theguardian.com/environment/20…
