2 things that haven’t been well reflected in a lot of recent coverage of Makary/Prasad: 1. They overrode zero final approval/rejection decisions. The override situations involved the Moderna flu vaccine FILING decision (since resolved via split pathway) and the Covid vaccine LABELING/indication decision (narrowing use to align with the new framework). 2. FDA oncology veteran Richard Pazdur played a key role in rejecting RP1. People can absolutely have different views of their performance, that’s fine. But the public narrative around “overriding scientists” and "anti-rare disease" (at least pertaining to RP1) has often been framed more broadly than the underlying record supports.
