The Globe and Mail is correct: five opposition floor-crossings, four from the Conservatives, including socially conservative MP Marilyn Gladu, plus one from the NDP, plus targeted by-election wins have manufactured a Liberal majority for Mark Carney without a single general election since the 2025 minority Parliament. This is not how representative democracy is supposed to function in Canada’s Westminster system. Voters elected MPs to hold a minority government accountable, they did not vote to hand Carney unchecked power through backroom deals and opportunistic switches. Canadians deserve facts, not spin. The Liberals under Carney continue the same policy track that produced a federal debt exceeding 2.35 trillion dollars, roughly 56,000 dollars per man, woman, and child, while net-zero regulations and bills like C-69 have stalled over 670 billion dollars in resource projects. February alone saw 84,000 net job losses, pushing unemployment to 6.7 percent. Affordability remains crushed, productivity lags the United States by 26-30 percent, and energy abundance is sacrificed to ideology instead of evidence-based development of oil sands, LNG, mining, and nuclear SMRs. Temporary tax pauses or rhetoric changes nothing at the root. The defectors’ previous positions, especially on issues like abortion and Charter rights, now prop up the identical agenda that drove those outcomes. This manufactured majority does not reflect a fresh mandate from voters. It erodes trust, fuels cynicism, and accelerates regional alienation, particularly in provinces that actually produce the wealth Ottawa redistributes. Evidence over excuses. Precision over propaganda. Citizens first. Canada first. We need recall legislation, fixed election dates enforced without loopholes, and an actual general election so citizens, not insiders, decide the government.
