@IndexAndForget Yes. 2000-2002. And in 2008 I invested all the way down and overlaid some leverage in early 2009. Jackpot. Compared to those events we have not had a real downturn since.

Had some odd download the other day about the coming of what might be called "blended experiences." Like you get on a real plane but it takes you to a virtual city, after which you return home on a real plane. Or you run across a real beach and dive into a simulated ocean.

Tesla can’t make FSD work consistently across their own platforms let alone other OEMs. No company is turning their user experience & data over to another company, nor assuming liability for another company’s software especially when it comes to safety critical systems. People need to accept there will never be an OEM that licenses FSD. Not happening.

It was the early critics aversion to all things Pop once RocknRoll became the Artform of Rock. If the lyrics didn't become personal or "important" in the post-Dylan consciousness, the artist became irrelevant. Keep in mind most of the critics responded to what they understood best, which is the lyrics. Very few actually had a deeper understanding of the music. Suddenly it all became cerebral instead of visceral. The entire concept of Rock Criticism was born after the Artform was born, which I consider 1965, but the world recognizes undeniably by 1967's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band. Which if I recall correctly, was the first time ever lyrics were included in the album package. It was Crawdaddy Magazine and then Rolling Stone and Creem that started taking Rock music seriously for the first time. Which was great and appropriate, but many made the mistake of rendering any music just made for fun, or to dance to, or anything less than a reflection of Bob Dylan's genius and influence, irrelevant. Most critics would never grasp the reality which, simply stated, is the lyrics were NEVER the important part! Yes it would be the lyrics along with the incredible Renaissance of creativity that would create the new Artform. But the lyrics would never be the reason a person bought a record. Never. Dylan would become legendary because of his lyrics, which nobody would have given a fuck about if he wasn't one of the greatest singers of all time, with amazing melodies and chord changes that somehow get taken for granted. (And to make the point, I may be remembering it wrong, but I don't recall Columbia bothering to print HIS lyrics!) The Beatles went to the next level with A Day In The Life. The Stones critical assessment changed completely with Sympathy For The Devil. The Who were finally appreciated when they elevated the Artform to its zenith with Tommy. All great. But some bands never made the transition to "important." It's the reason I had a lot of trouble getting the Rascals and The Dave Clark Five into the Rock Hall Of Fame. And still haven't gotten the J Geils Band in because they never stopped being the greatest Blues-based bar band of all time. Or Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes who were the 2nd best Blues-based bar band of all time. Or Gary Bonds inventing Party-Rock. Or god forbid you dressed in a fun creative way like Paul Revere & The Raiders. Forget it! If they were able to look past the fun clothes and hear the brilliance of Just Like Me, Steppin' Out, Kicks, Hungry, Good Thing, and Him Or Me, they'd be in. It's the only possible explanation for why Junior Walker & The All Stars aren't in, arguably the greatest sax player in the history of popular music, punished for having too many Pop hits! The great exception which forever fascinates me is Brian Wilson. Literally the only artist in history recognized as a genius WITHOUT WRITING THE LYRICS! Yeah he had a few of the early ones, typically early '60s stuff, certainly nothing that would suggest any special gift. It would be his brilliant use of harmony, melody, and musical texture that would be the measure of his genius. The truth is, the emotional connection begins with the music. Yes great lyrics will always be the icing on the cake. But they never have, and never will be, the cake.
