@wyshynski The problem with a visual aid, especially a thin one, is parallax unless the camera is exactly overhead. Sensors are the better option.

I can't find the story, but I'm pretty sure I wrote about this years ago. I think it was something that came out of the NHL R&D process -- a thin red line inside the net. If the puck touches it, that means it went over the goal line. Anyone remember this?

That's absolute bullshit. Completely embarrassing hack job by the referee to call that a goal on the ice. He was in horrific position and clearly did not have that call initially. There is no clear angle that I've seen of that puck wholly being across the line.

@nhlpens The video review was conclusive as per the NHL. It wasn't inconclusive -> call stands. The call was confirmed by the situation room and therefore would have overturned a no goal call

Oilers got screwed. Call on the ice should've never been a good goal. I feel like the crowd cheering + Ducks celebrating pressured the refs into calling it good goal. Replay can't overturn anything. Jarry actually played great tonight. Good for him.

Wild call on the Ducks' OT winner. We can certainly *presume* that the puck crossed the line based on the size of a puck and how little of it was obstructed by Jarry's skate…but where was the definitive evidence? Bad call, no?

That’s why it looks so dumb. Because we can’t see definitively through a goalies skate blade - unless you’re Superman.

espn rules analyst @ESPNRefNHL on this goal that was waved off: "the entire puck has to cross the goal line, and you need definitive proof. so even though it was ruled a goal on the ice, you need definitive proof to prove the puck was actually across the goal line."

@EckhartsLadder The issue is not weather it was a good goal it was the fact that the call on the ice was a good goal when the refs clearly didn’t see the puck cross they couldn’t have.

I am an Oilers fan but I don't understand the complaints. Yes, you can't see the puck but I think we've all seen circles before. There's enough to tell with 100% certainty that the puck crossed the line.
