A BMC circular (March 6, 2023) mandates that public gardens remain open 5 am–1 pm and 3 pm–10 pm on weekdays, and 5 am–10 pm continuously on weekends and holidays. Yet, reality differs. During a Saturday visit, I found Bandra Fort Garden locked at 3.30 pm, reopening only at 4 pm. Such gaps have led to citizen pushback as well, with the Love Your Parks (LYP) initiative launching a petition for uniform access from 5 am to 11 pm. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/bm…

@richapintoi Consider this. In KSA, the parks remain open till 12AM or 2AM based on their popularity.

@richapintoi BMC park in Jankalyan Nagar closes at 1900, as there is no lighting. There are provisions but work is incomplete for years.

@richapintoi Most gardens have their own arbitrary timings. The guards there point to the notices with those timings that haven't been updated in centuries.

@richapintoi Most gardens managed by private entities don’t allow people to even sit on the grass. Additionally kids are not allowed to play sport there. Claiming it’s just meant for walking and ‘upar se order hai’

@richapintoi I wonder why we don’t keep all parks open day long and only shut at nighttime. After all in Mumbai we such few green spaces. Parks not following the BMC dictat is really awful.

@pratt_srt @richapintoi according to the latest rule, during weekends and official holidays all BMC parks and garden should be open 5 am to 10 pm, no afternoon closures. But most local parks dont even respect the current policy

@MushtaqAnsari80 @richapintoi too hot for you doesnt mean it's too hot for other people. There can be staggered timings for staff. maintenance can be done by cordoning off a certain area, they do not water the whole area in the same time anyway...Most parks are shut from 9-5 pm nowadays...it si ridiculous.
