And we're done for the week! All of California YIMBY's new sponsored bills are through first house policy committees with minimal amendments: AB 2074, AB 1903, SB 1014, SB 1116, and SB 1117! @cayimby is a machine for passing pro-housing legislation. Love this team!🏘️💪

@realsaadasad I use the 30th bike lanes all the time! Always seeing people riding on it and bikes parked along the street 🚲

We're proud to stand with @AsmMattHaney, @MayorToddGloria, @Ca_Bldg_Trades, San Diego labor & housing leaders in support of AB 2074. The bill would accelerate the recovery of urban areas in CA's largest cities by streamlining construction of high-rise housing near transit hubs.

The worst decision the city of San Diego ever made was taking away all of the street parking and putting bike lanes that no one uses in several urban neighborhoods. What were you thinking @MayorToddGloria? How do we fix this mistake?

@mnolangray San Diego also experienced racial covenants, redlining, intentional displacement in certain places, polluting uses allowed in Chicano n’hoods, and disinvestment in BIPOC communities, to name a few unethical decisions Not perfect but were/are our leaders as bad as LA? I hope not

Happy to support my friend Tasha Boerner today for her reelection to the California State Assembly. (We agree very much on bicycle safety. 🚲)

I can’t really find out what happened with the cap. It looks like it may have never actually been enacted. By that point the subprime mortgage crisis was in full effect and the policy wasn’t needed. It’s not in the municipal code today, and there’s no ordinance number in the amendment history showing it ever was 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been doing some reading on San Diego’s condo conversion muni code. Found out that in 2007 the City was sued by “housing advocates” and entered into a settlement agreement to limit the number of condo conversions to no more than 1000 units per year because of concerns about the number of rental units being converted to for-sale….

Why is Imperial County governed by SCAG and not SANDAG? I find it hard to believe that e.g. El Centro is better integrated with LA than with San Diego.

@mnolangray The full explanation from this book. Looks like the predecessor to SCAG formed before the MPOs fully took shape, with Imperial eager to join and San Diego hesitating. (Thank you university libraries!)

The San Diego Unified school district recently approved plans for 2,500 new workforce units on district-owned land. The leadership position that city is adopting on housing is really remarkable, and a model for the rest of California.

@aarmlovi I chaired SD’s planning board for Downtown. High density residential is allowed & being built. The city is constantly creating new developer incentives too. However, there are still many parking lots/underutilized sites. It’s a different category of issues holding us back IMO

There's nothing more infuriating than a Triple AAA California city causing a declinist "doom loop" headline San Diego has the best climate on Earth! They could allow market rate high-rise residential downtown & restore their labor force, foot traffic, & tax base *instantly*

@StevePuterski NCTD also stated several times that the bus bays were going to be relocated regardless if the project was approved or not

Mayor Esther Sanchez said there was no communication from NCTD or Toll Brothers and ripped the location of the bus bays. She was the lone no vote. However, TB did reach out several times to no avail. Regardless, the project is moving forward. Groundbreaking expected in 2027.

A huge win for housing! @Scott_Wiener’s SB-79 will allow major rezoning near transit hubs, tackling California’s housing affordability crisis. Congratulations to @CaYimby and @YIMBYDemsSD. I wish I could’ve been there to celebrate, but thank you for your leadership and advocacy.
