Every foreign policy genius who spent a decade collecting paychecks to tell us Iran was untouchable just watched a real estate developer from Queens reopen the waterway that moves a third of the world's oil. The credential class should be embarrassed into silence.

Tom Nichols spent nearly 20 years teaching just war theory at Harvard. He is precise about what Vance got wrong. The just war tradition does not tell Christians when God is on their side. It regards war as evil and every life taken - ally or enemy - as a tragedy. Its conditions - just cause, right intention, proportionality, last resort - are not a permission slip. They are questions a leader must answer before risking his mortal soul by sending people to die. After Vance's remarks, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops doctrine chairman put it in writing: Pope Leo is not offering opinions. He is exercising his ministry as Vicar of Christ. That is Bishop Massa's clarification, addressed directly to this situation. Vance told the pope that theology should be "anchored in truth." Nichols identifies that phrase correctly: it means nothing. Whose truth? The bishop of Rome, whom Catholics believe speaks with charism on matters of faith and morals, was told by a recent convert that he should go do his theology homework. The Catholic tradition Vance cited has a name for this disposition. Pope Gregory the Great called pride the queen of all vices. The Latin word is superbia. Proverbs 16:18 has been in the text considerably longer than the Iran war.

BREAKING: Sec. Hegseth calls out ally countries who refuse to stand by America against the Iranian regime: "When the shots were fired and those countries were needed the most, they weren't there. They weren't in the Strait. They weren't alongside us." "You can't live in a world in perpetuity, and this is a message to the rest of the world and our allies, where you just rely on America to continually do the heavy lifting."

NEW: Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters today that Pope Leo XIV doesn't understand “something called the just war doctrine.” Pope Leo is an Augustinian friar who spent twelve years leading Augustine’s religious order. Augustine invented the doctrine. thelettersfromleo.com/p/something-ca…

@drunkenramshop @fordhamhoopsfan @wfuvsports Apparently the NIL budget will increase from $1-1.5 million to $3 million during this recruiting cycle. I could envision a scenario where, with enough success, we could be a $4-5 million a year school. With a huge local alumni base, it wouldn’t take much to get there

@markfeds @fordhamhoopsfan @wfuvsports It would be stupid to build a larger arena when they can't fill the small one that they currently use. I agree that it's easier to compete now with NIL, but will Fordham actually spend the money? I'll believe it when I see it.

Would you prefer for Fordham to cut the Football program to use the savings to make the MBB team more competitive? The same poll is currently 77% (1,756 total responses) in favor of cutting FB to invest in the MBB program on the Fizz app. @fordhamhoopsfan @wfuvsports

@drunkenramshop @fordhamhoopsfan @wfuvsports The NIL era is completely different than the last 30 years. For 2 decades, I have debated with alums who said the only way we could compete is with an arena and training facilities. we can have a respectable and competitive program in the NIL era on the cheap, w/o a new arena

@markfeds @fordhamhoopsfan @wfuvsports I would like to think that's the case, but the history shows that's just not the case. Fordham has been in the A-10 since the 1995-96 season. Fordham has won 10 conference games in a season twice and one of those seasons doesn't technically count due to vacated wins.

The silent hero who saved Jewish children with mime. Marcel Marceau — the world’s greatest mime — was once Marcel Mangel, a Jewish teenager in Nazi-occupied France. Born in 1923 in Strasbourg, his father Charles (a kosher butcher) was arrested by the Gestapo in 1944 and murdered in Auschwitz. As a teen (ages 16–21), Marcel joined the French Resistance with his brother and cousin Georges Loinger. He helped rescue at least 70–100+ Jewish children, smuggling them to safety in Switzerland. He forged identity documents, disguised the children as boy scouts on a “camping trip,” and led them on dangerous hikes across the border. The kids were terrified. One sound could mean discovery and death. So Marcel used his emerging talent for performance: he mimed stories, made funny faces, and acted out silent scenes to distract and calm them — keeping them completely quiet. He later said: “I cried every time we succeeded.” For 60 years after the war, he rarely spoke about it. He wanted to be remembered for his art, not his heroism. He created the iconic “Bip the Clown,” toured the world, influenced artists like Michael Jackson, and mastered the “art of silence.” In 2001, at age 78, he finally revealed his wartime story. Marcel Marceau died in 2007 at 84. He is remembered as the master of mime — poetry without words. But he was also a teenage hero who risked everything to save Jewish children from the Holocaust using nothing but silence and expression. True courage often speaks without a sound. Remember Marcel Marceau — not just for the silence, but for the lives he saved. May his memory be a blessing.❤️

Interest on US federal debt has never been higher: In the first 6 months of Fiscal Year 2025, interest expense jumped +7% YoY, to $623 billion, the highest for this period in history. This is even higher than during the massive pandemic response in 2021, when the budget deficit was at $1.7 trillion. Over the last 12 months, gross interest expense is running at a record $1.3 trillion. As a result, interest is now the 2nd-largest spending category, only behind Social Security at $1.6 trillion. Interest expenditures are $300 billion larger than health spending and $400 billion larger than defense spending. The US debt crisis is in full swing.

@fordhamhoopsfan @drunkenramshop @wfuvsports We can still keep football while increasing the NIL for basketball. It’s not going to take too much to move Fordham to a middle to top of the pack a-10. Recruits care more about NIL than facilities/home arena. Play neutral games in MSG, brooklyn or PRU and schedule games

@drunkenramshop @wfuvsports It's a fair question and something I wouldn't be opposed to personally, but in reality won't happen. Football has good donor support with longstanding tradition and my understanding is cutting the program is a non-starter.

I was proud to be joined by my bipartisan colleagues @RepPressley, @RepMikeLawler, and @WhipKClark ahead of the House’s passage of a discharge petition on my bill to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. We must stand with our Haitian neighbors and ensure they are not forced to return to unsafe and life-threatening conditions in Haiti. The work to protect our friends and neighbors continues.

Shortly after taking office, Vance used his speech at the Munich Security Conference to scold European allies for their outrageous assaults on free speech principles. But Orban banning political opponents from state media didn’t stop Vance from campaigning for his bff.

Long unofficially banned from appearing on state TV, incoming Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar appears on a channel to which he was previously not allowed only to announce an end of "North Korean" style Orban media monopoly.
