As far as I can understand it, we have 39 days supply of petrol available at present, and the shortages are being caused by people panic buying and filling multiple gerry cans. It's probably not a good idea to store that much petrol in a hot garage for any length of time.

The nut jobs are out in force suggesting the govt reduce or eliminate to petrol excise for a period of time to reduce the retail price of petrol. This would be one of the worst policy ideas doing the rounds. It costs billions of dollars making it harder to get the budget to balance. It stimulates demand adding to inflation at a time when inflation is too high. It make the petrol shortage - to the extent there is one - even worse as people keep driving & don't look for alternatives. While families are being smashed at the bowser, Labor’s answer is “buy an EV” instead of backing immediate relief in slashing the fuel excise. 26c a litre isn’t everything, but it’s a start and we’ll keep pushing to make sure you pay less.

We've asked Anthony Albanese to immediately halve the fuel tax for 3 months. We've also put forward sensible options to fund this measure. This would provide immediate relief to Australians who are struggling right now.
