Through the Women’s Integrated Cancer Services (#WICS), Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 is improving access to integrated cancer and NCD services for women. Thousands of women are now being screened for cervical and breast cancer, and receive checks for diabetes and hypertension, as well as mental health support - all in one visit. More 👇🏽

To wrap up #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, @WHOAFRO held an interactive session with staff on prevention and early detection. The event marked the close of a month-long campaign, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that reinforces care at every step of the cancer journey. @WHOAFRO remains committed to the Global Breast Cancer Initiative and to promoting women’s health across Africa.

João Mindo’s journey to healing began not in a distant hospital, but in a clinic near home. For three years, his condition went undiagnosed—until a #PENPlus clinic in rural Mozambique identified rheumatic heart disease. After surgery in Maputo, João (pictured below with his older brother, Lazaro) now receives regular care close to his community. For many like João, PEN-Plus clinics are a lifeline—offering a second chance to breathe, move and thrive. More: afro.who.int/sites/default/… #InvestInPENPlus. #InvestInlife. #EndingDiseasesInAfrica

At #UNGA80, I joined @NCDIpoverty to celebrate 5 years of progress, proof that when leadership, resources and partnerships align, transformation is possible. @WHOAFRO deeply values this partnership, which has been central to advancing the #PENPlus vision across Africa. We reaffirm our commitment to scale up PEN-Plus so no family is left behind.

Mulikat Okanlawon from Nigeria survived #noma—a devastating disease that destroys facial tissue and bone, killing up to 90% of those untreated. Even though she didn’t receive timely care, Mulikat survived and rebuilt her life after surgery. At #RC75 today, I presented the Regional Framework for Accelerating the Global Oral Health Action Plan to Member States. With @WHO and #partners, we’re training health workers to detect and treat noma and other oral health conditions that affect 42% of our region’s population. This framework offers a bold path forward: transforming oral health, implementing global goals, and strengthening systems to ensure no one suffers in silence. The time for action is now! afro.who.int/news/african-h… Photo credit:Fabrice Caterini / Inediz
