STATEMENT BY @AngusTaylorMP Yesterday the Full Federal Court confirmed that Australian law does not properly protect single sex spaces for women and girls. Most Australians would find that hard to believe. A coalition government I lead will fix this. We will amend the Sex Discrimination Act to ensure that women and girls (and men and boys) have protections based on biological sex. We will define biological sex in the Act. Male or female. The sex you are born. And we will protect single-sex spaces across Australian life. This is not radical. It is common sense. Let me be clear about what this is not. This is not about targeting transgender Australians. Every protection they currently have remains. We are not removing a single protection from anyone. But we are recognising something that should never have been in doubt: biological sex is real, it matters, and women and girls deserve spaces where it is respected. This will be a first-term priority. The Prime Minister now has a simple question to answer. Does he believe women and girls deserve protections based on biological sex?

It's 31 years today we lost my big brother Steve Connolly at the age of just 36. It's a long time, but for us Connollys his memory burns as brightly now as it ever did. He was a brilliant guitarist, songwriter and producer, who helped shape the sound of much-loved Paul Kelly classics like 'Leaps & Bounds', 'To Her Door' and 'Before Too Long'. But to us he was also simply a whip-smart, funny and feisty little bugger, entertaining, endearing and occasionally infuriating, sometimes all at once! And I'll never stop beaming with pride any time there's a radio nearby, one of those songs comes on, and there he is again, still with us. RIP Steve, love you mate. x

I often sense a contempt for AFL fans among a big section of football media now. Why? Love of the game, for one. I'd argue far more people I came into footy journalism with were genuine fans who grew up going to games each week & passionately following a team. Now? Not so much.

Today is ‘Mother’s Day’, not ‘family day’, not ‘carer day’. Motherhood is exclusive to the female sex, though sadly, not all women are able to experience it or enjoy it. Motherhood is not a social construct, it’s a unique biological relationship between each mother and her children. Mothers are not interchangeable- though many good women step into the gap left by others, and love children who are not their own blood. I am blessed beyond measure to be a Mother of 4, and to have been loved by my own Mother. My sincere hope for young women today is that they would see motherhood as the gift it is- even in the hardest of circumstances. 💜
