@ArmchairAdml And it turns out 67mbit is adequate. I'm not seeing anything too different, we use streaming and two people work at home, myself in data analytics, lots of Teams calls.

@ArmchairAdml Change provider. Same service over same wire. But you're a new customer. We did this in March after same BS from BT - moved home only 67mbit available. They wanted £72. We were full fibre £88. Told them they should give me new customer price. No. So Sky ... £20/month offer.

My grandad is being charged £98/month out of contract by BT for 300mb/s + phone line. I called them, ask to reduce the price. He tells me the best he can do is £65/month excluding the phone. The BT website has £28/month for both. I’m told if he logs into his account and does it online, it might be cheaper, but won’t be as cheap as the new customer deal. My grandad is 84 and has been a customer with BT longer than I’ve been alive. He makes phone calls and occasionally watches Netflix. He doesn’t know how to use his BT account. Pissed me off so much.
Josh@JoshCF_

Sky Broadband said the best they can do for me is £40 a month (£4 increase). Been with them for 5 years. Go on a price comparison, they're doing a £23 a month offer for new customers only. So fucking stupid.

@RayMairead Always the same bs from cyclists in these threads. "It's legal to ride 2 abreast, actually :^)" "Oh, where do you need to be in SUCH a hurry? :^)" "Well actually, we don't HAVE to use cycle lanes if we don't want to :^)" Then they'll still wonder why everyone hates them

Our party has suffered a historic defeat. Many good Labour colleagues have lost their seats despite working hard for those they represented. We have lost good Labour administrations and lost the chance for more. What we are doing isn’t working, and it needs to change. This may be our last chance. The Labour Party must now live up to our name: we must be the party of working people. We’ve heard the same on the doorstep as we’ve seen in the polls - the cost of living is the top issue for voters of all parties. People have turned to populists and nationalists because we have not done enough to fix it. Living standards are barely higher than they were a decade and a half ago. People feel hopeless - that the cost of living crisis will never end, and now they see oil and gas companies use global instability to post record profits. Once again, ordinary people are paying the price for decisions they didn’t make. It’s no wonder that across the UK, working people feel the system is rigged against them. Things can be so much better than this. Countries including Spain and Canada have shown that economies can grow and people can thrive when governments stay true to labour and social democratic values and put people first. We need to learn from that. In London, we lost young people who fear they will never afford a home. In my patch and across the north, we lost working people whose wages are too low and costs too high. In Scotland and Wales, people do not currently see Labour as the answer.  We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism.  Decisions like cutting winter fuel allowance just weren’t what people expected from a Labour government. For too long, successive governments have allowed wealth and power to concentrate at the top without a plan to ensure the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. The result is an economy that does not work for the majority, with wealth concentrated in too few hands. This level of inequality, alongside squeezed living standards, is the outcome of a model built on deregulation, privatisation, and trickle-down economics. But we have the chance to fix this.  1/2

@AngelaRayner We're supposed to believe you wrote that? It's total tosh and I suspect is a framing pack ready for Starmer's apologies tomorrow. Then based on how public (aka media) respond, he'll step down and you - a cretin in my opinion - hope to step in. This is incredible. Incredible.

@ChrisGloninger Fuck off will you. Forecasted. And you'll manipulate and lie to make sure it lives up to the hype. Won't be in UK as it's been rather cold for 4 months already. They've not mentioned global warming much in fact. Stopped beating about records. Funny that.

James Hansen, the NASA scientist who first warned Congress about climate change in 1988, published a new paper this morning. His conclusion: 2026 is forecast to be the hottest year ever recorded in the entire history of instrumental temperature measurement. Not second hottest. The hottest. And he says 2027 will be hotter still, because the rate of global warming has literally doubled since 2015. The last time a monster El Niño hit the whole world simultaneously was 1877. Florence Nightingale wrote to the Lord Mayor of London calling it "the most hideous record of human suffering the world has ever seen." That was a natural event on a cooler planet with zero fossil fuel emissions baked into the baseline. We are not on that planet anymore. #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming #ElNino #ClimateScience

This is all true. Classic red herring Also classic attempt to look like you're doing something to address a problem when really you're not We're now in a crazy situation where we spend £billions to subsidise supposedly "cheap" energy Then we spend £billions to fix the problems that cheap energy causes on the grid (need for more power lines, backup generation or storage and managing real time intermittency) Then we spend £billions supporting consumers to be able to afford the previous £billions in cost we created And @Ed_Miliband is deluded enough to think the rest of the world wants to copy us
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Ed Miliband has announced plans to ‘break the link’ between gas and wholesale electricity prices. Once again he has NOT come to Parliament to announce these plans… no doubt because someone might ask him some questions… Here’s why they are red herring 👇🏾

@mattzzjunkla @philhuwedwards Average UK car drives 19 miles a day. For the other 23 hours it's parked up, doing nothing. Car batteries will discharge during peak demand and charge during off peak. These are not difficult solutions.

TRIGGER WARNING: Solar providing more energy to the grid in the UK than burning fossil fuels. YES Solar on its own, not including wind. Renewables work and the great thing is, we discovered battery technology, so it can be stored for ‘when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow (FUI the wind ALWAYS blows somewhere in the UK)!

@philhuwedwards @BrknMan And once discharged in such a situation, how long to recharge? Where does the recharge energy come from at high speed and how do we use 30m cars whilst that's happening? Councillors should be focused on REAL issues not net zero fantasies. What a clown. Who votes for these idiots?

@BrknMan I don’t understand the question. All of it could be from rechargeable sources. It’s the amount of total storage we need to see us through wind/solar minima that is important.

France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces. Parking lots over a certain size have three to five years to cover at least half their surface area with solar canopies or face fines. The projected output: up to 11 gigawatts of capacity, the equivalent of 10 nuclear reactors. The panels shade the cars. They can charge EVs directly underneath them. They generate electricity for the grid. The parking lot goes from dead infrastructure to power plant without using a single additional acre of land. France plans to increase solar tenfold and double wind capacity by 2033. The US has approximately 800 million parking spaces. Eight hundred million. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight. Why aren't we doing this?

@smellygrowler @EVCurveFuturist Depends how much you can 'absorb' that downtime into other moments the truck is parked. E.g. if the driver is required to take breaks & the truck charges then, too, it makes no difference. Equally if it charges at the loading bay, whatever. So it'll be a big "it depends"

Volvo just dropped a ~700km electric truck into the mix. ~44t GCW ~28t payload ~650hp ~700kWh battery ~A$450k upfront ....but ~$1.7–2M cheaper to run over 10 yrs. Add Tesla + Windrose + BYD, & fleets now have more choice. Diesel just lost another lane.⚡🚛 #Bettrification thedriven.io/2026/04/16/vol…

The crashing and burning of Bill Gates is one of the more spectacular turns of our age. It's hard to believe. This guy was not only the global warming guru but probably the top Covid lockdown and vaccine pundit who made bank on the whole operation. Now he is a poster child of overclass arrogance, pretense, decadence, and corruption. Amazing.
