@mavickers

Thank you, please don’t swing your shovel at my head, friend. No, I truly won’t appreciate that sound.

"A weaponized drone is a flying landmine that goes looking for targets. It doesn’t need to navigate stairs or open doors or carry a rifle. It moves in three dimensions without caring about terrain. It can approach from any angle, including directly above whatever cover you’re hiding behind. It follows you into buildings. It doesn’t need to shoot you, it just needs to get close enough and detonate." silencingmachine.org/posts/0004-its…

Happy 30th Birthday to this @kingsx album! I tend to associate music purchases to what I was going through in life at the time. 30 years ago I was still getting oriented to moving to the east coast. This album was like having a familiar voice on the journey. youtube.com/watch?v=GSn_Ep…

"As you may or may not have heard, a few nights ago, I, the Reverend Dr. Edward Daniel Taylor, had a dream. You know, it's funny, but it seems that by divine providence, every time I have that chili onion supreme from Wally's Wiener World, I'm visited in this manner. Can I have an amen?"

In the time that you spent writing these three tweets you could have provided a definition. I can't and won't respond to your "whole bunch of stuff" when I can't get a take on how you define god. Maybe people don't understand what you're saying because we don't understand what you mean when you use certain words. Your arguments in your article, and these threads, hinge on a definition of god you are keeping to yourself. Some of us would like to evaluate your arguments in light of what that definition is before trying to make any point. You're right, I'm not educated in philosophy. I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to ask questions here, that I'm supposed to take your articles from on high without asking for clarification. I'm just a rube. I started following your account when I learned that you're a new brother, but I'm really disappointed to find out tonight you are also a philosophical snob who can't be bothered to answer a simple question. Farewell.

@mavickers @GalenBalinski Because I choose who I’m going to have time-consuming conversations with. No offense, but most people haven’t got a clue about how to do philosophy.

Here's a little argument that there is only one God, and the proposition that there are many gods is certainly heretical.

@lsanger @GalenBalinski Where did I say or imply I was Socrates? You're the one who started these threads, made the assertions - define your terms. Otherwise this discussion has little value. Why are you ducking such a simple question?

@lsanger @ToddClark572278 If only God can be a god, it doesn't make any sense that we are commanded to not do something that is impossible. I sort of sort understand what you're getting at, but this seems like a semantic game at this point.

@ToddClark572278 This is obviously a poor argument: we can be commanded not to take anything BUT GOD as our god. No one else *can* be a true god but God.

@lsanger Has there been an established definition of “god” and “God” in your recent threads?

The ignorance and foolishness of these people would be comical if not for the power they wield to destroy civil society. Imagine having the sum total of all human knowledge available at your fingertips…and still being so completely ignorant about basic truths of human nature.

@lsanger @writeontheedg3 We’re working off functionally different definitions of god. The one I take does not imply divinity, and therefore does not need a “quotational” qualification just about everywhere it’s found in the Bible.

The question is NOT "What did Heiser believe?" I don't care about that, frankly. The question is, "If you believe that the entities worshipped by the Gentiles were properly called 'gods,' are you making a mistake?" And: "Did the Bible call the entities worshipped by the Gentiles gods?" Those are interesting questions and he is not the only one who has informed opinions about them.

Michael Heiser made it cool for Christians to talk as if the Bible teaches many gods exist. I don't claim to know exactly what Heiser himself believed. But many of his followers cheerfully affirm polytheism and don't seem to realize it. Blog post dropped 👇

My confusion with this discussion hinges on defining what a god is. Exodus 20:3 clearly indicates (from God's hand) that there are other gods. What are those? Not "ontological peers" as you've stated, but it's plain that the Bible teaches there are many gods, whatever or whomever they may be. Maybe you're getting at something different with Heiser, I don't know, but I've grown up with church teaching "many gods" like this through the years. I only heard of Heiser about a year ago.

If I may pile on, the newsfeed for LinkedIn is garbage, at least if you aren't spending money on the service. The first item to come up is "suggested", so it's a post from a rando. The next post is from a rando, not suggested but "promoted". The next is a connection reaction to a post from a rando. The next is suggested. The next is a comment from a connection to a rando. The next is an ad. The next is suggested. The next is recommended jobs (I am not "open to work"). The next is promoted by a company who a few of my connections are following. After that, a comment by a rando on a group that I'm connected to. And finally, a direct post from one of my connections.

@lsanger Is part of 6 asking us if we think that is the traditional Christian view? The first commandment makes it clear from the Lord that there are other gods, what the those are is a longer discussion.

Which of these, if any, do you think are true? (1) Michael Heiser believed in multiple gods. (2) Heiser believed in multiple elohim but not in multiple gods. (3) Belief in multiple gods is called polytheism. (4) Heiser (and those agreeing with him) are polytheists. (5) “Monotheism” should be redefined to include belief in multiple gods, as long as only one is supreme. (6) The traditional Christian view—that there is exactly one God and no other gods exist—is wrong about what the Old Testament teaches Be honest.

@Timcast Coffee with any sort of dairy in it tastes dessert-ish after going black. After going black I had a new appreciation for Starbucks but couldn't drink Dunkin' anymore. Dunkin' tastes like chemicals now.
