@NayanimaBasu The irony of this. Trump may not remember that the FBI in the United States had been given advance warning about the December 1941 Pearl Harbour attack by Japan in mid-1941 by a UK-Yugoslav double agent. cia.gov/resources/csi/…

No word of condemnation of continuing US/ Israeli aggression against Iran. If Iran’s actions to block the Strait of Hormuz are illegal, so is the US/ Israeli war on Iran. Iran’s Homuz action follows the US/ Israeli aggression, not precedes it. If blocking the Strait is causing pain to the developing countries, so is the spike in oil prices resulting from this US/ Israeli aggression. No word about the Israeli attack on South Pars which has provoked Iran to attack oil/ gas facilities in Qatar and other Gulf countries. The reference in this joint statement of the signatory countries making preparations to act appropriately in the Hornuz Strait is a veiled threat of intervention which can worsen matters. Pressure on Iran not to attack its neighbours is understandable but not strongly asking Israel and the US to end their attacks on Iran is not taking a balanced position.
Jacqui Heinrich@JacquiHeinrich

NEW: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, & Japan issue joint statement expressing “readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts” to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, welcoming nations engaging in prep/planning & coordinating SPR releases and ways to increase output. Calls for Iran to “cease immediately its threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks and other attempts to block the Strait to commercial shipping, and to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817” Read here: gov.uk/government/new…

Qatar's PM: "This war needs to stop immediately. Everyone knows who the main beneficiary of this war is." Qatar's PM told the world, this war serves someone's interests. And that someone is not in Tehran, Washington, or Doha — it's in Tel Aviv.

Not clear what is meant by keeping us “ in the loop”? That the US should have sought our consent and we should have given it for a known US mercenary along with Ukranian mercenaries to illegally enter our border areas with Myanmar, cross into Myanmar to train insurgents there knowing their links with elements on our side that are of the same ethnic group?

I don’t get it. If Hezbollah had flats in this block (unlikely in central Beirut but not impossible) why did the Israelis give everyone inside an hour to get out — including those they wanted to kill? And if there weren’t any Hezbollah people there, why destroy a building with dozens of civilians in it?
The Associated Press@AP

An Israeli airstrike struck an apartment building in central Beirut, on Wednesday. The Israeli army had warned residents to evacuate about an hour before completely flattening it as day broke.

Vikram K. Doraiswami, currently High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the People's Republic of China, an official announcement said today. Doraiswami, who took Mandarin language training in Beijing in his early career, never got posted to China thereafter, if memory serves me right. Now, he heads there in what is arguably a crucial phase of India-China relationship. P. Kumaran, currently Secy (East) will likely succeed him in London. Other important postings also likely in the neighbourhood soon

Proud moment for Punjabi literature! 2025 Sahitya Akademi Award winners include story writer Harjinder, former Indian Ambassador Navtej Sarna, and Jammu’s Pritpal Betab. On the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, @NavtejSarna told me: “My intention was to explore how ordinary lives change unexpectedly by such events—horror doesn’t end but throbs in destinies.” Powerful reflection on history’s scars. 📚 #SahityaAkademi #JallianwalaBagh bbc.com/punjabi/articl…

Figure This: Indian diaspora in GCC: 10 Million (1 Crore) with jobs at Risk Remittances from GCC: 40% of India’s total $51–52 billion Energy needs from GCC: 40–50% of India’s crude oil & Gas imports Cumulative FDI from GCC to India: ~$28.28 billion This all will be hit as GCC economies go down, all thanks to Benjamin Netanyahu (Israel) & Donald Trump (USA) for attacking Iran using GCC bases & airspace in disastrous war. Will USA or Israel compensate for this to India !? I have not even taken the impact of inflation, fuel & gas issues, market meltdown etc

The Ukranian Foreign Ministry has upped the diplomatic ante by taking an aggressive public position on the issue instead of dealing with it more discreetly. Asking the arrested Ukrainians to be released forthwith is being presumptuous. This suggests that they have stakes in covering up the matter, which means they want to prevent a thorough investigation that could prove embarrassing for the Ukranian regime.
OpIndia.com@OpIndia_com

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry disregards India's authority on Indian soil, demands release of its citizens and criticises NIA's action, including the legal process. This is not the first time. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has been arrogant for years opindia.com/2026/03/ukrain…

@carlbildt Carl, Remember: Wars , except in self defense or authorized by @UNSecCo, are violations of UN Charter Art 2:4. I guess we agree that such wars- apart from being illegal- regularly are hopeless lose/lose propositions and tickets to misery for millions of innocent bystanders.

A Security Fiasco in India’s Northeast: The arrest of six Ukrainian nationals — all war veterans — and one American citizen with combat experience in the Syria and Libya conflicts by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) for providing military equipment and training to Chin rebels and other militants in Myanmar with ties to Indian insurgent groups casts an unflattering light on the security apparatus in India’s vulnerable northeast. ■ According to court filings, the seven accused mercenaries entered India on tourist visas and traveled undetected to the sensitive border state of Mizoram without obtaining the mandatory Restricted Area Permits (RAP). They then illegally crossed the unfenced international border into Myanmar’s Chin State. ■ The court filings state that, while in Myanmar, they provided training to Chin insurgents and other ethnic rebels with documented links to Indian militant organizations such as ULFA(I), NSCN and the Kuki National Army operating in the northeast. This training included: →Drone operations and assembly →Jamming technology and weapons handling →Supplying a “huge consignment” of drones sourced from Europe ■ The seven men subsequently re-entered India through the Mizoram-Myanmar border — again without detection by border or local police forces — before traveling deep into the Indian mainland. ■ They were eventually tracked by federal agencies and arrested on March 13 at transit hubs far from the Myanmar border while in the process of leaving India: →The American was detained at Kolkata airport →Three Ukrainians were arrested at Delhi airport →Three Ukrainians were arrested at Lucknow airport The NIA has charged them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), including Section 18 (terrorist conspiracy). The introduction of European-sourced drone technology and jamming expertise into this theater represents a significant “force multiplier” for insurgent groups. The investigation further indicates that the seven men were part of a broader conspiracy to transport sophisticated drones and other Western weapons into Myanmar via India, effectively establishing a “tactical corridor” through India’s northeastern borders. The scale of the security lapse is difficult to overstate. That these individuals were able to enter India, reach its northeast with military equipment, cross into Myanmar, and then return through the same route without detection points to a serious intelligence and border management failure. Their successful movement of a large consignment of drones and related supplies through Mizoram suggests that external provisioning of arms to Indian insurgent groups may be occurring more frequently — and more invisibly — than officially acknowledged. Taken together, these developments suggest that India’s northeast risks becoming a permissive operating environment for foreign actors fueling the Myanmar conflict, with spillover effects increasingly visible in Indian border states such as Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
