The Australian leads with Newspoll: "Newspoll: Jim Chalmers and Anthony Albanese’s budget flops with every generation of voters" They included a fancy "dig deeper" slider, which we guess most won't see. BUT LEFT THIS OUT (Image: 1) Note the images they use (Image: 2) Because the Australian is a shit bucket.

Media is enjoying obsessing over polls at the moment, except for this post-budget Resolve poll which has been quietly buried. Is it because it shows more Australians support cutting handouts to wealthy investors, than not? #auspol

So, according to Newspoll, the electoral impact of the Budget is.... Labor steady, Coalition down, One Nation up. That must have been one hell of a Budget reply speech. In all seriousness, the idea that Australians absorbed any of last week's political news cycle is rather dubious. Multi-million dollar advertising campaigns, the kind run by Coca-Cola, Bunnings, and the major banks, take weeks of saturation media at serious levels before they shift awareness in any measurable way. Effective frequency research has been consistent for decades: a message needs somewhere between five and ten exposures before it starts to land. The frequency levels for political content are much higher (I know, it used to be my job). Major product launches with tens of millions behind them still measure unprompted recall in single digits after a fortnight on air or online. Now think about a Budget. No paid amplification. One week's news cycle. Competing with the footy, the supermarket bill, and a thousand other things that are actually relevant to people's lives. The notion that this lands with the median voter anywhere, so quickly, is a fantasy sustained by people who watch politics for fun. Or those who deeply wish political content is salient to millions.

Fun facts: In the 15 years since September 2011, the number of dwellings has increased by 2.395 million. Population (natural & immigration) has increased by 5.292 million people. Assuming 2.4 people per dwelling (a conservative estimate) there has been "over building" of 190,000 dwellings. At 2.5 people per dwelling (the latest estimate) there has been over building totalling 279,000 dwellings.

Three clips to educate the cookers who are marinated in #MSM and One Deflation juice. 🚨 MYTH 1: IMMIGRATION IS OUT OF CONTROL BULLSHIT. Immigration is DOWN by 42.9% - yes, DOWN, NOT UP, you absolute muppets. 💰 MYTH 2: LABOR’S INTRODUCING AN INHERITANCE TAX BULLSHIT. There is NO inheritance tax in the 2026 Federal Budget. Zero. Zilch. Nada. 🎪 MYTH 3: ANGUS TAYLOR’S $32B TAX GIVEAWAY IS “COSTED” BULLSHIT. Angus the Abacus can’t count. His $32 billion “saving” is $12.5 billion short of reality +Video education for cookers

June 1, 1933: The "Fund of German Trade and Industry" is created, a huge slush fund administered by Martin Bormann in the Führer's name. The regime used the funds to compensate SA Stormtroopers who committed street violence, subsize the SS, and enrich Nazi party officials.

Q: Do you believe people who committed violence against Capitol police officer on January 6 should be eligible for compensation from this DOJ fund, and are you or your family members going to be seeking compensation from that fund? TRUMP: Yeah. It will all be dependent on a committee

Every time Angus Taylor opens his mouth, he lies. The information he sprouts is skewed and completely unreliable. All he is capable of doing is to run scare campaigns. No substance whatsoever. Sarah Ferguson on ABC 7.30 proved that point.
Cheryl Kernot@cheryl_kernot

Just keep patiently explaining please @JEChalmers until the 95% register that it doesn’t affect them. That means a sustained fight back against most of the media’s agenda. Heaps of Australians, including boomer cohort, strongly support your changes.

This re GetUp! spending lots of $$$ in Farrer to no real effect is interesting but I think missing something important. Rural seats just don't like outsiders swanning in to their by-elections and telling them how to vote. Cf New England 2017. thesaturdaypaper.com.au/comment/topic/…

@SimonBanksHB The minimum tax will not apply to fixed trusts, widely held trusts, complying superannuation funds, special disability trusts, charitable trusts, or deceased estates. Additionally, discretionary testamentary trusts existing at the time of the announcement are also excluded

@SimonBanksHB The Howard government considered reforming discretionary (family) trusts in the ate 1990s to curb tax avoidance by taxing them like companies. This proposal was ultimately abandoned due to intense lobbying by National Party and concerns over the immense administrative complexity.

If you repeat the line "death tax" as a journalist Without making clear it is an LNP or conflicted tax adviser's talking point that has no substance in fact or law Then you aren't a journalist There is literally no element of the ALP's policy that supports that claim

Media already stressing over another overblown "death tax" budget claim. Let's have perspective: - all current trusts exempted (as per budget papers) + other trusts remain - richest 10% = 90% of trust wealth (budget) - latest stats from 2023, likely <10k trusts of this type (SMH)
