I found that dozens of U.S. citizens and immigrants across the country are seeking at least $260 million for damages they say they suffered during immigration enforcement operations. The number of claims is expected to rise. latimes.com/politics/story…

@David_J_Bier “consistent with long-standing immigration law and immigration court decisions, aliens seeking adjustment of status must do so through consular processing via the Department of State outside of the country.” YOU LITERALLY CAN ONLY ADJUST FROM INSIDE THE UNITED STATES

There was, of course, zero prep work to set up for the 1 million pending applicants to make this insanely arbitrary and pointless policy work. The law does not require this outcome in the slightest. Congress has explicitly envisioned adjustments happening in the USA for decades.

How can Congress not impeach @USCISJoe? Do your job, Joe. He now demands every green card applicant self-deport, so that 1) applicants have to go through a process where courts are barred from nearly any review of consular decisions; and 2) overstays get 10-year barred....

In a federal case in Oregon, ICE officers admitted under oath they have daily arrest quotas and use Palantir's app ELITE for mass targeting. (January reporting by 404 Media, linked here, describes the app in more detail.) theguardian.com/us-news/2026/m…

ICE is buying warehouses across America and calling them detention centers. But there's a problem no one in the federal government seems to want to answer: where does the water come from? A thread. 🧵

A year ago today, @Sec_Noem was sworn in to lead @DHSgov. Under her and @POTUS’ leadership, our border is secure, integrity has been restored to our immigration system, and the safety of our homeland comes first. Congratulations on a historic year and thank you, Madame Secretary!

Under the direction of @Sec_Noem, @DHSgov posted a Federal Register notice terminating the designation of Somalia for Temporary Protected Status, effective March 17, 2026. Temporary does not mean permanent! To learn more, visit uscis.gov/newsroom/news-… Aliens should use the @CBP Home app to report their departure from the U.S.: cbp.gov/about/mobile-a…

If Elon Musk really didn’t want his gesture to be interpreted as a nazi salute he could’ve just hopped online and said ‘hey you guys, I think nazis are deplorable and I was miming tossing my heart out to the audience’. Instead he’s posting about the dangers of multiculturalism.

What Trump’s election means for immigration: Be prepared for H-1B changes. A lottery based on salary, increased filing fees, and increased enforcement against job shops.   Look for higher visa denial rates and longer processing times. And count on no immigration reform, including no increase in numbers, no changes to per country limits, and even a possible shrinking of legal immigration. Outside of employment based immigration, look for mass removal operations,  temporary and massive detention centers, many arrests by ICE, stricter scrutiny at the ports of entry. Prepare for the formal end of DACA, the termination of virtually all TPS programs, the end of asylum as we know it, the end of our refugees programs, and a slow walking on the diversity lottery visa issuance.   Every dream of restrictionists is about to come true.

America has handed Trump a dark mandate on immigration; there is no way to escape the conclusion. If you are a non-citizen without a green card in hand and are still thinking there are sunny days ahead, well, think again! Buckle up, it will be a depressing 🧵

The most amount of money spent on political advertising around immigration has been in... Ohio. A state whose sole international border is with Canada across Lake Erie. The next highest is Indiana, which doesn't have any international borders at all.

A team at the @washingtonpost analyzed 700+ campaign ads that mentioned immigration this year. "Taken as a whole, the ads convey an unrealistic portrait of the border as being overrun and inaccurately characterize immigrants generally as a threat." washingtonpost.com/elections/inte…

Looks like DHS updated guidance on humanitarian parole requests to enter the US. The process has been under fire as many Afghans have been denied parole. The new guidance says applicants can now show they are a member of a "targeted group" & could face harm in their country.

The memo, written by a chief immigration court official, Tracy Short, appears to be part of an effort to reduce the staggering backlog of more than 1 million deportation cases, which has resulted in some immigrants waiting years for a hearing.
