What's the point of them being there at all - just to be called on when it suits the Europeans ?

the F15 was flying too low but not low enough, and was hit, the A10 was shot down over the water.

as a former air defender the plan that the US has right now of bringing aircraft down to the deck is fucking stupid and will result in dozens of aircraft lost in the next week. this is the wrong environment for low flying CAS. A10s and helos were built so they can fly behind hills and buildings for cover, there are none in the gulf

Every day Iran gets 500 chances to shoot down a US or Israeli fighter. After 35 days Iran took its second (!) successful shot. The F-15E then flew 400 miles before pilot & WSO ejected. Neither of whom has been captured. russia lost 24 fighters in the first 35 days in Ukraine.
