Master of Development Policy and Practice in the bag 💼 I started this degree at the beginning of 2024. At the time I was the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition- @Our_DA. I knew it would be difficult to balance the academic demands; my job as a parliamentarian - during an election year. Half way through that year, I was appointed as a cabinet minister. One of the largest undertakings I’ve ever made. I briefly contemplated deferring; but this was an important commitment I’d made to myself. Through sheer stubbornness and the desire to gift myself a 3rd degree, I decided to continue. To say the following 18 months after that decision were hard, would be an understatement. It tested my resolve; my patience and stretched my intellect in ways I’ve never experienced before. 2025 was by far the hardest part of the academic journey. However, the @MandelaUCT School and my supervisor were incredibly supportive. Not only did I manage to complete this degree; I completely aced my dissertation. I’d begun work as the then Chief Whip of introducing legislation that would help South Africa manage coalition governments at a local, provincial and national government. Never did I think that my topic would be my lived reality. I researched the relationship between the political instability in the City of Johannesburg and the service delivery decline over 10 years. What an enlightening journey. A topic that I want to possibly expand on for my PhD one day. I want us to have a real academic and practical understanding of how we make coalition governments work better for the people of South Africa. 🇿🇦 Ndiyambulela uThixo, AmaWushe, my loved ones, my team and my incredible supervisor for pushing and encouraging me when times got tough. NQF 9 girlies are UP! 😊

@_master_will @daddyhope Very interesting! My culture doesn't work that way. If your parents were cousins, you are also cousins, AboMzala, as we say here in Southa...😆 Thanks for the explanation...👏

@mbamla @daddyhope She is a niece because they are the uncles and her mom who is aunt. Male children of uncles are also uncles not brothers. Female children of uncles are mothers. Male lineage takes precedence ie the male side of the family also become fathers and uncles by birth right.

This is my niece Nancy Chidawa visiting from London. Her mother was my father’s first cousin. Her maternal grandfather, Kuzanga, was my grandfather’s younger brother. Kuzanga and Chin’ono were Mukusha’s sons. I grew up with my father teaching me about the entire family and our lineage. When I moved to London to study in 1994, Nancy and I connected, and she stood as my guarantor when I rented my first apartment in Abbey Wood, Plumstead, London. I often speak about the importance of our ancestors to us, rather than hero-worshipping people from the Middle East. To give a clearer understanding of our family relationships, my father was Chin’ono’s last-born child, born in 1920. Chin’ono and Kuzanga were born in the 1800s, yet we remain as close today as they were then because we respect our ancestors. I am happy that mwana watete wangu is here with me. The ancestors will be smiling wherever they are because the Creator asked us to respect our lineage and not disparage it. That is where our blessings come from.

🎞️ Xabi Alonso took charge at Bayer on October 5, 2022 with the team second bottom in the Bundesliga. It was the second worst start of the season ever for Bayer Leverkusen since 1979. Xabi had 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 managed a senior team having joined Leverkusen one year & half ago from Real Sociedad B. 18 months, exactly 557 days later, Bayer Leverkusen won the first Bundesliga title in 120 years of history. It happened with 𝐙𝐄𝐑𝐎 defeats and 43 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions for this top team. Bayer Leverkusen are also in DFB Pokal final against Kaiserslautern and in Europa League quarter finals… It happened on Xabi Alonso’s 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 season, first title and now dreaming for the Treble. The only 𝐮𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧 team in top European leagues so far.
