@JamesSurowiecki People who view the two series is TV shows like band of Brothers better. And that’s fair, but I view them as dramatizations of history and I found the Pacific more compelling but I am fascinated by the pacific theater in general.

This isn't controversial - it's crazy. I last watched Band of Brothers decades ago, and still vividly remember many scenes from it. The Pacific I barely remember anything of.

I think AOC should take Schumer’s senate seat in 2028. Then she becomes a very prominent and effective Senator leading the progressive movement after Bernie retires. She will have countless viral moments grilling cabinet and SCOTUS nominees… She spends the next decade or so doing that and waits for the boomer voters to die out and the electorate to become a bit more favorable for progressives nationally…. THEN she makes her run for POTUS. If she runs now she’s either going to lose in the primary and miss out on the chance to take the Senate seat… or she’s somehow going to win the nomination only to have a very high chance of losing to Vance because the modern electorate just isn’t ready for a young female socialist… In the scenario where AOC loses to Vance, the progressive movement is dead and there won’t be a left-wing Dem nominee for the next few decades.

@AttyTMD @baseballcrank My dad navy world war 2 vet also made it to 3 months short of 100. Had 8 kids, 22 grands and 6 great grands when he passed. Epitomized greatest generation in every way.

@baseballcrank My Dad was half-day late to Pearl on 12/8, survived the sinking of his ship in Nov '42, had 7 kids and 20 grandchildren, and lived to 6 weeks short of his 100th birthday. I'm sure he thought every day about USNA classmates and shipmates who never made it home.

An 18 year old in 1944 would be 100 today. The WWII generation are old men fading fast. But when you meet one, think of how much life they had after the war, that their fallen comrades did not.
