Right, if homeschooling is actually super high quality, then homeschooling families should not object to being evaluated, tested, and checked-in-on to make sure their kids are actually learning.

Look, pro-homeschooling people are piling on this guy but he's not wrong at all. I know of families who are straight-up failing to teach their children beyond a 2nd-grade education. Like 16-year-old kids who don't know what the Capital of the US is, have never heard of Toronto, and could not perform a basic algebra problem. While it's true that there are many excellent homeschooling families whose instruction far exceeds that of any public school, the fact is that the American system of "school your kids however you want" does also yield a lot of severely stunted kids who get stuck playing "catch-up" for the rest of their lives. My wife was homeschooled, we might homeschool, I'm not averse to the practice per se, but it's a fact that there's a whole world of multi-generational homeschoolers who are not and will not rise above a 2nd or 3rd grade education level by their own volition. Should the state intervene in these cases? I dunno, the answer to the question is not as "easy" as many make it out to be. The idea of barely getting through 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' at the age of 16 should be appalling, and it IS happening in some American homeschooler families.

@greggnunziata NATO was to deter Russia, but beside our nuclear umbrella, Ukraine and a couple Eastern European countries can take Russia. What is the point of US being there? Spain shows that we are actually helping the spread of communism by protecting them.

@bulkeley_john @general_ben Why? Ukraine, Finland and Poland can take Russia by themselves. The rest of Europe can pay them for protection. Why do we need to be there? It made sense before Ukraine exposed Russia, but now it just doesn't seem necessary.

Here’s a thought. Instead of having US troops sitting on their butts in Germany, why not reposition them to reinforce NATO countries in Eastern Europe. Eastern Europe is actually on the border with Russia and these troops would be protecting some of the more vulnerable members of NATO, like the Baltic States. We are not fighting the Soviet Union anymore and the Warsaw Pact nations are in NATO now. Europe has changed and the center of gravity is in Eastern Europe, not Western Europe.

This short-sighted decision will not hurt Germany. It only hurts us. It does nothing to protect our strategic interests overseas. We cannot defend America from TX or GA or NC. We need forward friends and forward access.

There are many, many, MANY highly educated black Americans who are exceptionally competent and extraordinarily skilled in their chosen professions.
However, affirmative action causes people who do not know them well to question whether or not they earned what they have. Given the prevalence of affirmative action in our society, this is actually a fair question.
However, that question is incredibly hurtful to those who HAVE earned it, and the whole system is toxic to society.
The harm affirmative action causes black professionals is one of the least recognized aspects of the debate.

The days of the Soviets sending huge armored columns through the Fulda Gap are long gone, especially now that all of the Warsaw Pact countries are in NATO. We should only be reinforcing countries that take defense seriously, and that's in Eastern Europe.

Doesn't change some of the racist things that have happened to her and my boys in America. Wouldn't leave for anything, but there are some racists. I saw more racism in liberal areas, but it still exists.
