Yea. There’s always some device that is both so compelling at a price/functionality basis but is also unbearable via any other control and monitoring mechanism that SNMP rides in to be the savior. Just watch out for bad implementations. I used to keep a stash of SNMP based vulns.

it’s taken me my entire career up until today to not touch SNMP with my dirty little mitts. i hadn’t so much as blinked at an SNMP trap. but then… i purchased a switched PDU

@willreil @JLCPCB You can upload a single instance of the board and use their ordering interface to have them construct the panel to your specifications (it gives you a live preview).

Absolutely crushed. I ordered a board with clear v-cuts and got a board with none. Did I do something wrong? Is this a mistake by @JLCPCB?

@NeighborsFarm @mikerankin I added a couple of thermal vias per data sheet and it fits upside down on a board I’m working on, and it looks like an alien insect readying itself to devour you.

The answer is ultimately surface tension. The solder-mask (the colored surface of the board) is repellant to solder, but certain metals such as the pins and the solder pads on the board are not. As the flux compound activates and cleans the metal, the solder goes from micropellet to liquid, and immediately and aggressively latches metal and pulls it together. Even the minimal spacing shown here discourages solder bridges.

@yacineMTB @Zetarcos_314159 While directionally correct, this still misses principles about distance, when it’s desirable, undesirable, even unworkable. It misses layout matters like differential pair restrictions, etc.

@Empty_America Short of a serious land incursion on US soil, I can’t imagine a draft ever happening again. There’s no political will for it. Way before it became necessary there would be a political shift toward just carpet bombing enemy civilians.

I believe that Ukraine and Russia both "recruit down" starting with middle aged childless men. USA will have to adopt this if they ever want a real draft. Mothers will object much less to the removal of a 32 y/o gamer, versus their 18 year old baby.
Bruno Jahn@foxyforecaster

@Empty_America Future wars in aged societies will be fought by childless men over 30.

@badcharts1 @profcryptotalks LOL, a barrel of oil doesn’t have residual value… precious metals are mostly not consumed, not exhausted. Oil is purchased to be consumed and exhausted. It doesn’t trade like a durable commodity because it’s a consumable.

Not sure why $200 crude oil is seen as the Boogeyman. Price compared July 2005 vs today: -> Gold was $425, now over $5000 -> Silver was $7, now over $80 -> Oil was $60, now only $96 It's still one of the cheaper assets. Wake me up when oil is above $500.

@specialkdelslay yeah it's like you're probably going to be in and out of the hospital for the rest of your life and need to be on a restricted diet and have a colostomy bag. idk maybe i'd change my mind if i was actually faced with it but no thanks.

@yacineMTB How much better/worse the story is will be proportional to the package size, improving as it gets larger.

@yacineMTB Yes. Under common use cases, ceramic capacitors stated, rated values have a ridiculous-lie-percentage factor tied to the package size. For smaller components, in the use case of energy storage/buffering while enduring DC bias, the reality can be less than 20% of the rating.

why shouldn't i just pick the smallest possible cap/resistor sizes if i'm going to get it assembled by a board shop? is there any reason other than being a stinky incapable human to get bigger sizes than 201

@blind_via Also what’s up with popular parts from modern stuff that have obviously imperial system influenced measures. Like pin headers and sockets with 2.54mm pitch, clearly 0.1”. Was it the 0.1” pitch first and they converted or did it start as the 2.54mm pitch?

The only objectively correct answer for that question in the general case is “possibly”. That and the other “possibly”s are the part that takes longer than 2 weeks. (Yes if what you’re feeding that power to has sensitivities to being supplied given the specific nature and scale of the ripples.)

looking at the datasheet of an LDO. I guess when voltage upstream changes, it causes voltage ripples like this. Is this something I should quantify and correct for downstream? Sorry for all the stupid questions

@aholtzma @yacineMTB *except sometimes some parts require or at least request that sets of them not go to ground but be floating on an isolated copper pours. I forget what cursed thing I saw that on. Seems like that’d severely limit the dissipation area.

Amtech, has use by date but it’s fine even past that. Just add a touch of isopropyl if it hardens over the years. Beware of china shipping Vaseline and other fake crap with the amtech label like this new one turned out to be. It’s produced in the US. Bought mine from Louis Rossman’s store.
