Um estúdio independente pode ter vários projetos, com parceiros e budgets diferentes. O que torna um estúdio independente é o poder de tomar decisões e escolher os seus parceiros como quiserem.

@wesleytypes @stagledas169 @nuhre_ I think you misinterpreted what I said, I'm saying the moment a publisher has even the slightest say in the direction of the game's development, the game and studio are no longer indie. If the publisher is just handling publishing then the game and studio are still indie.

Sobre o termo "indie": Acho que chegou a hora em que precisamos decidir: ou a gente entra num consenso sobre qual parâmetro ele representa, ou aposentamos o termo de vez. Gamedevs já o aposentaram. No momento ele serve só pra confundir e gerar engajamento com discussão inútil.

Scope reflects budget and final price, and it’s at least measurable enough for the term to mean something. In short: Larian can be indie; BG3 isn’t. But anyway, agree to disagree

@mecagamesdev @rosmarymouse @ManaByte That is ertainly a way to define indie. I think "scope" is what the more mainstream definition of "indie" is. As I said: I use a more business centric definition. but this is certainly an issue I can "agree to disagree".

@Timpossible_21 @rosmarymouse @ManaByte IMO an independent company is one where the founders/owners make the decisions, not outside shareholders or a parent company. For games, imo indie should describe scope. otherwise, you’d need Forbes to label it properly. The same studio can take different approaches game by game.

@mecagamesdev @rosmarymouse @ManaByte I agree. The term indie in general is very hazy and vague even if I use my business definition. You could ask if a studio is still indepented if get any funds from a big-ish publisher. I would say yes but others might disagree.

Devolver is a publisher of indie games but if publically traded I would not call it in itself independend in the the sense I aplly the term to devs. I think it depends how we define "indie". A genre? A financing model? Or an economic status?

Se a comunidade de games qdo comecei a me interessar por gamedev fosse isso que vemos no twitter hj, eu provavelmente teria escolhido outra profissão. Não por falta de amor por jogos, mas por imaginar esse bando como público, cliente e “patrão”. Comer vidro parece mais saudável.
