Back in 2013, a Medical Officer in Pakistan earned around PKR 40,000 a month, I know because I did it, when 1 USD was ~PKR 101. Fast forward to 2026. The dollar has jumped to ~PKR 288, nearly three times higher, yet allegedly some private hospitals across Pakistan, including Lahore, are paying Medical Officers just PKR 30–45,000 for full time work. Doctors accept this not by choice, but because there is no viable alternative. Today, the average laborer earns around PKR 35,000 per month. After a decade of relentless study, sleepless nights, financial strain, and personal sacrifice, many young doctors are being paid the same as unskilled labor. Doctors and staff at all public sector hospitals across Punjab, have been strictly instructed not to use mobile phones or personal devices during duty hours. Patient care must take absolute priority, and patients’ time must not be squandered. My Inspection teams are conducting surprise visits round the clock to the hospitals to ensure full compliance. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against any violations.
